I'm thinking about purchasing a diva cup to try but I am a little concerned. I get AF about 2 times a year, but I was put on the nuva ring last month. I am supposed to take it out pretty soon, and the doctor said I SHOULD get a period the first month. I have never really thought about the prices of pads and tampons before, because I only had to buy them a few times a year.. it never really occurred to me that now I am going to have to purchase them every month. The diva cup is a once a year purchase from what I understand. I stopped using tampons when my PCOS starting getting worse.. for some reason they make my already unbearable cramps worse. Would the diva cup cause the same problem? And if I get AF while my ring is still in, can I still use the diva cup?
I'd like to know all of your experiences and stories with it, the good and the bad. Thanks!
I have the Diva Cup. I love it. I have had it for about 6 months now. I cant tell you how it would do with the NuvaRing, I never had that. But as for everything else, I too have/had really bad cramps and they seem to be getting better as the months go on. I used to have to take Naproxen on the hour every 12 hours for at least the first 5 days of af and now I am down to like 2/3 days. I also have extremely heavy periods. Most women can get through 4 hours with out having to change it. Me on Day 2&3 of Period, I have to change like every 1.5 hours to 3 hours. On these days, I know I have to wear a pad, because I will leak. But every other day, is fantastic!! Dont even feel like I am on AF. There is an actual pretty long thread around here somewhere and there might be someone on there that has/had the nuva ring.
Hope this helps.

I am using the keeper now, and yeah, it is gross to dump it. But it's not that bad and I'm over it. Tampons are gross, pads are gross. I think my periods even seem shorter because of it, but that might just be the way my hormones are right now.
I have one. I bought one a couple of years ago, but lost it somehow- I don't know how- I had it in my suitcase when I went to camp, and at the end of the summer it was missing- and back then my cycles were really irregular and I bought it because I didn't want to have to worry about whether I had pads in my bathroom when AF actually DID come... I bought another one this fall, after I started taking Errin, and my cycles were coming very frequently; it's more comfortable than a tampon, as well as safer- you can wear the Divacup for a whole 12 hours without risks for TSS, and it's not hard to deal with... it was hard to put in to begin with- but once I got that down, I love it. I don't think it's that gross to dump the blood -it is a tad bit messier though. I generally wear a pad with mine, just to catch anything that accidentally leaks, but not much does. On my really heavy days though, I'm glad I have!
I think it's worth getting, though it's expensive, too. I think, $34 or something, if I recall correctly?

I found it for seventeen some place actually.
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the DivaCup. I of course am not using it now because I am PG, but I can not brag on it enough. So much more comfortable than pads and tampons. AND, you don't have to buy a new one every year. It should last years from my understanding.

I wouldn't give it up for the world! I use the keeper and a panty liner days 1 & 2 just in case, but that's it. On those days I usually empty it two to three times a day.
The rest of my period, the keeper alone is just fine.
I have never found it icky to empty it in the toilet, and I find that it is odourless, so much more convenient than pads in that way.

I use the Diva and I love it! The only drawback is if you're going to be at a public place. Otherwise you can wear it longer, it's green and it's healthier than tampons because they've been bleached. I'm not a pad person so for me it is a great option. You get over the grossness and difficulty putting it in with in a cycle or two.

I agree entirely with the pro-divas! It really is great. I was worried about the 'gross factor' at first, but once you get used to it, and learn what works for you, it's way less gross than the alternatives like pads, or leaks.
It shouldn't need replacing every year, they've just started saying that because unfortunately, once you buy one you won't need to replace it for a long long time. It's unfortunate, but they have a limited market and need to make money. Too bad it's at the expense of their own customers. It's the same product that they were advertising to use for 10 years just a few months ago.
Because I am never entirely sure when my period is going to start, I have even put it in on days I suspect I might start 'just in case'. Unlike tampons, it can be put in and taken out as often as needed without discomfort if it isn't needed, and allows for practise before you're due on.
Best purchase I've made in a long time!
