Default Dizziness!?

Hey guys. I just have a few questions. I can NOT figure out why I'm so dizzy. I have good days and bad days. Today is the first day of my period and I am SO, SO dizzy (yet again)! I never linked it with my period before, or PCOS, and I'm wondering if anyone out there thinks it might be a hormonal thing!? It gets better with head placement for vertigo, but I doubt that Vertigo just comes and goes like this. I had a great, super healthy day yesterday and so I planned a fun day today for my family and now here I am, sick as a dog... I'm so bummed...

Please give me ANY ideas...
Thanks in advance!

I hope you get some responses because I also get dizzy and I'm not sure why. I was dizzy with both of my pregnancies, but now I am not pregnant(though I'd like to be) and I am dizzy on and off. Like you said I have good days and bad days??? I started taking Metformin in December and thats when I noticed more dizzy spells so I wonder if mine is related at all to blood sugar.

Hi ladies,

I suffered from what my family referred to as "dizzy spells" growing up. My pediatrition had several tests run and found nothing. Eventually they stopped and I was fine up until a few years ago when they returned with a vengance. I once was dizzy it woke me out of a dead sleep. That spell was so severe I spent several hours laying in the bathroom floor because I was sick to my stomach. That prompted another trip to the doctor. I was sent to an ENT who said I have something called Meniere's Disease, which is an inner ear disorder. He gave me medication to prevent fluid retention and some anti-dizzy medication for those days I feel dizzy. I've also read that reducing your salt, caffeine, and/or alcohol can help.

I'd definitely recommend seeing your doctor. I know mine asked that I start documenting when I was dizzy and rate each instance on a 1-10 scale (1 being slight and 10 being severe). You may also want to pay attention to your diet and see if there is any relation to salt/caffeine intake.

Hope that helps!

I'd definitely talk to your doctor because there might be something wrong that needs looking into. I get that way sometimes, and it's normally because I have low blood sugar. Definitely doesn't sound like something you want to let go, though. Good luck to you!

Hi Tracey! I agree, I went to the doc the otehr day and he said my ear was plugged. I went because the dizzyness was coupled with ear pain. I dont reallly like my doc, he really seems to blow me off a lot

Thanks Allieoop, I'll have to look into that. I have been dizzy for so long I kind of forgot it wasn't normal until this thread lol.

I get dizzy some. When I was younger the doctors thought I had vasovagal syncope but it has lessoned a ton as I got older. I haven't passed out in a year and half. I would think getting dizzy that often is not normal.

it's so odd and good to hear someone else with this problem. All day yesterday and today I've had dizzy spells off and on. I'm not onmetformin at the moment, so it could be blood sugar, buti dont' have any other symptoms like sleepiness or headache. hmmm, i need to add it to the list of dr questions. I'll bring any news back here, if i hear anything!

I was getting really dizzy a couple of months back. I even passed out once. So my hubby freaked out and I was sent to four or five different doctors! The only thing anyone could find was that my blood pressure was dropping with no explination. I had what's called a tilt table test done and that is how they found it.

Good luck! Hope you feel better!

I get dizzy spells too, generally just a "lightheadedness." I thought it was just due to changes in my blood sugars and stuff---but, after reading these posts, I think I will check it in relation to my cycle and tell my dr. hmmmm.......

Wow, you guys, thanks so much for all the info. I did check with my dr but as one of you said she seems to blow me off. She's the second dr to do this, too, so it looks like I need to switch. Again! Anyway, she thinks I just have BPV (vertigo) and is sending me to a physical therapist. I think it's hormonal, but at the same time I've heard there could be a connectin with Hypoglycemia. Does that spark anything with anyone? I have also noticed it more after sugar and while I slow down and relax.

Wow...this is sooo enlightening! I have been dizzy off and on for a few years..more just lightheaded. I did start noticing it was worse around a week or so before my period is due. I mentioned this to my doc and he said that it is definitely hormone related, and can be made worse when they are surging before your period. He told me to watch my caffeine, which I do and to drink tons and tons of water when I feel this way. It's something about your body fluids. I've been doing this for a few months and have been drastically better. I hope this helps!

I Get dizzy alot, plus terrible ringng in the ears, first my doctors thought it was vertigo but then run more tests and i was DX with Meniere's Disease.
I can't take the med's for it was it flares my IBS up.
But i do find the attacks become much more server if i haven't had great sleep and when i have my cycle.
But if i was you i'd get it checked out because it took me three years to get Meniere's Disease DX.Good luck

Yes, Metformin can make you dizzy and give vertigo. I've been on it and off it 3 times and each time I am on it, I get dizzy. My endo told me after I hit the floor for 3 days that dizziness is not a side effect of Met, but my MD argued that and said it's very possible and to LISTEN to our bodies. So I went off the met from his recommendation and the dizziness lessened by 90%. He also checked that it was no blood sugar. I fell off the exam table right in front of him and he caught me and tested my blood sugar asap and it was fine. So, no it's not blood sugar and if you get the blow off I think its beacuse the Dr's don't have many choices in treatment. They have to give you something and they want you coming back too. It's a business. This 3rd time on Met, I am dizzy - alot. But I just accept it now.
