Question Dizzy Spells

For the last two weeks I have been getting dizzy spells. Not sure what is causing them, I can be watching TV and all of a sudden I will start feeling sick to my stomach, a hot flash will start and then the room starts spinning. Sometimes the room will be spinning for as long as 10 minutes. I am going to see an RE on wednesday which I am hoping will lead me in the right direction with dealing with PCOS, but until then I am still dealing with my regular doctor, who made the find. She says that she thinks that it my body getting use to Yasmin. (Just started on my thrid month of Yasmin) I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this and if so what they think or have been told is causing it. I do plan on asking the RE on Wednesday. Thanks for listening.

I get dizzy spells and hot flashes alot as well. I know the flashes are related to the PCOS in my case. But i think my dizziness comes from my panic disorder. Would be nice to find out it was medical though i spose. Then maybe when my lvls start coming around i would stop having em so dang much

I, too, have dizzy spells. They can be caused by many things, but in a PCOS case may be caused by anemia or low blood sugar. Maybe supplementing your diet with iron or drinking an orange juice might help. These are just a couple thoughts. Let me know if you get them under control.

I actually get the dizzies when I have had too much sugar and I'm dehydrated.

Note...You become dehydrated long before you get thirsty! FYI

I had several real bad bouts with being dizzy, until I started drinking water instead of pop. Sugar and caffene are the worst things to have when your going through this. They make it much worse!

So first step is to drink more water!

Good luck,
Patty

Default need to watch dizziness

I was on metformin and started getting severely tired and very dizzy. Everytime I would stand up, sometimes just sitting and the room would spin. I don't know about Yasmin, but if you are taking met and start feeling dizzy, contact your dr immediately, it could be lactic acidosis (which is fatal in 50% of the cases if left untreated). Lactic acidosis occurs when your liver and pancreas are not working properly anymore (met can be hard on it, the elevated insulin can also be hard on it as with IR). I happened to have had hepatitis C when I was a child and my liver has been very bad since then. If you have good liver and pancreas, it is not a concern. In my case I was taken off the met, and will not ever be able to take it because of the reaction I had.
The symptons are severe, not the regular tiredness... but the kind were you don't think you can move, coupled with dizziness and lightheaded feeling.

I don't want to alarm anyone, but ask your doctor if the medication you are taking is hard on your liver and/or pancreas. If so (like met is), you should have regular check ups on your organs (once every 3 months) to monitor their health, specially if you have a history of a disease that has already weakened your organs. So don't all be alarmed, I am not sure if this is something specific to met or any medication that is taxing on your liver and pancreas. Either way, call your doctor and make sure you know what part of your body your medication may negatively affect. You should know so that you monitor your health and take necessary precautions.

If your getting real tired and/or dizzy while taking met, you need to drink more water! I too am IR and If I miss my dose of GlucXR I actually get leg cramps and painful feet!

Now if it doesn't clear up in a week with adding 25oz of water a day, then yes,I would say go talk to your DR again.

The main reason people do get the lactic acidosis is from dehydration! That is what sets it into motion.

So please everyone, drink your water or suffer!

To me those things were a symptoms of hypothyroidism. Now I am on L-thyroxin and I feal so much better. Maybe you should get your thyroid levels checked also?

I'd been getting dizzy spells on and off for a few years, I thought it was my ears as I've had problems with tinnitus (varying degrees) since I was about 22. However, when I discovered I had PCOS I bought some books one of which listed dizziness as a symptom.

Since then I've been trying to regulate my blood sugar levels by eating complex carbs and proteins with carbs. I've also been taking various supplements including chromium to increase insulin sensitivity and milk thistle to detox the liver. I've cut out caffeine and artificial sweeteners too.

I don't know which of these may be responsible for helping me! The dizzy spells have all but gone. I don't know if it's coincidence but whatever works is OK in my book

Default Dizzy spells

I have been having dizzy spells for about 3 months. That is one of the reasons I went to the doctor in the first place. I ahd a list of about 10 different symptoms and this was one of them.

Well I had my first appointment today with my RE. Which I am very impressed with. We talked about the Dizzy and light headed spells and he thinks it is the cause of a couple things. One is my body changing to Yasmin, another is because I went off Paxil, even though I was on a low dose and the other is because he believes I am IR. He is sending me for more blood work and all that fun stuff to try and get some concrete answers. As far as water, that is all I basiclly drink. Sometimes I drink so much I feel I am going to float away.
He said that the Paxil thing isnt as much of a factor anymore because it has been almost a month since I stop taking it and I was only taking 20 mg. But he said IR is probably playing a big factor in it. Thanks for listening.

I have dizzy spells also. I could be sitting at my desk at work and all of a sudden it feel like the room is spinning. (like when you get drunk). I am not IR but do have PCOS. I am going to the Dr. on Monday. Is it another fun filled symptom of PCOS?

I've been getting dizzy spells for years. At first I brushed it off to low sugar or high bp, but not anymore. I'm on low carb, so sugars are stabilized for the first time in a long time, have lost enough weight to have my bp back in the normal range once again, and the dizziness is coming back again. I've just gone thru lots of medical tests to rule out MS, among other things (got results today...negative!), so we know there's no tumor, thyroid issues, lymes, etc. Can PCOS cause dizziness w/o anemia or bs problems?

Edit: I'm not any meds, so it's not a side effect.
