Default Do antidepressants hinder chances of ttc?

I was just wondering if anyone here with pcos has taken antidepressants and was able to get pregnant also while taking them. I know that they can make you gain weight, which is not good for ttc with pcos. I know that they really help me cope with things in my life. I was thinking about getting off of Lexapro 10 mg, but I'd like to hear of any successes with people getting pregnant while taking AD. In other words, if I don't have to get off of them I won't. I have just heard in the past that they can raise your blood sugar levels. But my doctor said that if they help you mentally, then that is good, because you should not think about getting pregnant if you are depressed or suffer from anxiety problems. He says you will not be able to get pregnant if your not in the right mental state.

My dr said if the benefits outweigh the risks then keep taking them......to me that means no...I would not take them. I dropped all of mine - and there was a laundry list. I have been through emotional hell recently, but I am dealing.
good luck to you!

Antidepressants shouldn't have an effect on TTC or getting pregnant, some of them can have a negative effect of the actual baby though. Effexor is not good to take while pregnant, but like your Doctor said, if your mental health needs outweigh the risk to the baby then you should carry on.

I mean, basically they are telling you that if you stop the medication then your state of mind can have a negative impact on the baby's growth - therefore you're better off taking the meds which may have an effect, but also may not.

It's a completely personal choice but if your Doctor thinks that you should stay on them then that is certainly something to take into account.

My doctors refused to help me at all while I was on ADs. I had to be a month clear of them before they would help me. But that is my Doctor, each one is different.

I've taken Wellbutrin for almost 8 years now and I don't think it had any ill effects on me once we started TTC.

I've also heard of Wellbutrin being prescribed to help with weight loss. Not as a weight loss drug per se, but I think it's supposed to help curb cravings or something like that.
