Default Do cysts cause bruising on the stomach?

I've known about my PCOS for 4 years. My diagnosis was a trip to the ER convinced I had something wrong with my appendix. I remember having brusing on my stomach back then because the line of questioning was "Are you pregnant? What's this bruise from?"

It seems everything I have a rather painful cyst I get a bruise on my stomach sort of straight up from my leg bone and over from my belly button. It's always on the side of the cyst. It never hurts and it's not in a place what really gets bumbed into things. It's a pretty "bad" bruise because it lasts a long time and stays yellow for sometime. Usually when I bruse it's gone in a couple days.

I've told my doctor and she *laughed* and said my ovaries aren't anywhere near there and stopped the questioning. She's a horrible doctor anyway.. but we don't have a lot of choices up around here if I want a regular doctor. So, I'm wondering if anyone else has this or if I should be getting this looked into more? I find it often helps when I go to the doctor and tell her... I think I want ______ screened and then she just listens... sad... but true.

Any insight?

You don't get visible bruises on the outside of your body from cysts on your ovaries. You get them because something external has impacted soft tissues and has ruptured blood vessels. I can't imagine what's causing what you're describing. Have you showed this to the doctor when it happens?

I have shown here but she's not concerned. However, she's frequently not concerned about things that she should be. For example, every November I got extremely depressed and start sleeping 15 hours a day. I'd be lucky to work 3 days a week until about January... I even got mildly suicidal last December. For years she took some blood to make sure I wasn't low in iron (because i'm a wacky vegetarian!) and finially I discovered on my own that I have severe SADD. I told her and she said "probably, you might want to get a SADD light" so I did and I've never felt better. What kind of doctor in my area wouldn't suspect something like like? *sigh* stupid doctor...

Well, I'd try to find a new doctor, but you say you can't.

But the point remains, cysts inside your body won't make a bruise appear on the outside. And your ovaries aren't up at the level of your navel, they are way further down towars your pelvis. How many times have you seen this happen?

(I too was diagnosed when I went for an appendectomy when I was a kid.)

I have lipoma formation that causes bruising on the skin. I sometimes wake up and have small bruises for no reason on my stomach arms, legs, anywhere. The lipomas are painful. But it is unrelated to PCOS for me.
