Default do cysts increase testosterone? or does testosterone increase cysts?

I ve always wondered.

do cysts increase testosterone? or does testosterone increase cysts?

Which came first in that chicken or egg scenario?

Its my belief that due to the high testosterone, the menstrual cycle is disrupted and the follicle is never released and thats why the cyst forms on the ovary.
I could be wrong though. I dont know that I've ever thought about it in detail.

Great question, I have no idea what the answer is although I would have instinctively said cysts first, because they prevent the ovaries from doing their job properly (i.e. regulation of hormones)... but February's thought sounds just as plausible!
