Default Do drs think its werid if you shave "down below?"

I've been avoiding shaving down there for two reasons--skin irritation and a doctor's visit. I don't know what a doctor would think if I didn't have any hair down there. I have an US in a week, but really want to shave again before then. What do you all think? How common is it for women to shave *all* the hair off?

Default I love it!

I shave all the way -- except for a small patch -- "the landing strip" My boyfriend loves it and actually the sensation is more intense -- wink wink!! I don't think doctors think it's strange -- I'm sure they've seen it all!

Well I have been totally bald down there for like 6 years now and to be quite honest, I think my Doctor prefers it, it's easier and cleaner, I just get that vibe off of him when he is down there.

I agree with the statement that doctors have seen it all. I keep mine shaved or trimmed and always have. It's not a big deal to me. But you need to do whatever is most comfortable for you. If you want hair, grow it back. You want to just trim it up, do so. If you want no hair, shave it. It's really all about you, not your doctor. I'm pretty sure he/she's not going to make any comments about it. Good luck.

Not having had a child YET... I'm pretty sure you get shaved for delivery... all you mom's out there... is that true?

Heck, I had mine lazered... there is no growing back... and I've had all but the "landing" strip removed... DH likes it... and I don't think my doc. cares...

I would think a trimmed hoo-ha can serve as a sign of good hygene...

For the record, I wouldn't go to the beach without shaving... so I treat the doc. the same...

Every now and again I shave it all. Usually, I just keep it trimmed - it is just too nasty to have it long durning visits from AF. Ugh! The last time I shaved completely was right before the post D&C check - up. My dr. didn't say a thing. Like many have said - They have seen it all. It's all up to you.

Last month i went for a regular annual gyn visit and was feeling quite embaressed about the same thing. My doctor was suprised I was embaressed and told me that I would be surprised how many women she sees who are shaven down there and for me not to feel weird about it. She said it is more common than I think. So don't worry. They are all used to seeing it.

Someone asked if when you have children do they shave your privates? Not anymore! Only if you have a c-section they will shave the area they are cutting, but otherwise no. That's good too, because with stitches from an episiotomy or hemorrhoids from pushing, you don't want any more itching and discomfort from the hair growing back!

Where do you get laser removal done? How much does it cost and how many times do you have to go? I like have it all off, but I don't like shaving down there because it grows back fast and it's a lot of maintenance to keep it up. Not to mention the hair is in places that are hard to get too - maybe mine is out of control
I would really like to find a permananet solution though.

I've never had a Dr. say anything about "lack of hair" down there. Most of my friends say they shave or trim too.

I prefer to shave it because it makes me feel cleaner and DH likes it.

Oh, BTW, I usually keep a "landing strip" too

Talking Something to bear in mind...

This is so embarrassing but I thought I would share this with you all! Many years ago I tried to bleach mine from dark to blonde (it went like copper wire!) and tried to shave it into a heart shape for Valentine's day! It didn't quite work out as hoped but my bf liked it. Trouble is, I forgot that I had an appointment next day for a smear test. The Dr performing the test was male and although he didn't say anything, his face said it all and I imagine I was the talk of the rest room that day lol!

These days, I too have a 'landing strip'! Must be in vogue lol! I have found that to avoid irritation to shave with the direction of growth and not against it, until you get used to it. These days I shave downwards first and then go upwards against the direction of growth and I don't get irritated very often at all. Make sure the skin is softened in warm soapy water for long enough, before attempting it. I usually wait until the end of my shower or after being in the bath for at least 10/15 minutes. I also noticed that when I was not taking my Spiro the irritation returned and I got bumps and ingrowing hairs but since going back on it, this has gone away again!

Don't worry about it - it's so common place these days and I would think more women than not, shave there nowadays

Default This will make you feel better...

Up on the examination table for my regular visit, sitting there in my paper deal.. my doc notices that i have my tongue pierced, ha ha, he thinks thats funny. He moves in for the breast examination and ha ha, my nipples are pierced too, he joked about it but was professional. He turns to my knees and gets into position for the rest of the check up and he says to me "Now theres nothing here I need to know about before I take a look is there?" ha ha. Needless to say, he was just releived that there was nothing down there.. at all.

They have seen it all, even when people dye it blue and cut little hearts into the hair..
