Default

If your Ha1c level was normal, and your doc reassures you that it was normal, then no, you don't have diabetes......yet

But if you have PCOS and you know you have insulin resistance, then you need to make sure you and your doc have a plan to keep your hormones and your glucose under control.

If you keep your weight as close to normal as possible, become physically active, and eat a healthy diet, it is much less likely you will become diabetic in the future. The exercise part of the equation is particularly important.

Default IR vs. Type 2

There is an article on these boards . . . either here or in Diet and Exercise, which explains this distinction quite well.

Basically what it boils down to is this: IR has very little to do with blood sugar levels. People with IR often maintain normal blood sugars, although they often have insulin levels much higher than normal to maintain them.

High insulin levels bring many problems of their own, including weight gain and heart disease.

I would ask your doctor to check your INSULIN LEVELS, not merely your blood sugar. This will give you a much more accurate picture.
