Well, i need your help! I have seen dr after dr and still have not found anyone to be helpful. Brief history: acne since age 11, somewhat irregular periods..they were always late, so maybe a 40 day cycle system..depression, anxiety, thin, thinning hair....
sooo..some dr's have questioned if i have pcos or not...ive had 2 ultrasounds done and both showed that i have a string of pearl of cysts on my right ovary..
also, before i was ever on the bcp, i had blood work done...my LH was 9 and my FSH 3....my most recent blood work shows that my LH is 5 and my FSH is 4...also, my blood work shows that my androgen hormone (androtenione -sp)
is elevated... the normal range is something like 4-12 and mine is 16.5
the most recent endo i saw does not think i have pcos...despite all these findings..however, other dr's think i do...
im so confused...lost, lonely, scared, upset...etc etc etc
the most worrisome symptom for me is the acne...it has affected me emotionally and psychologically..
i am currently on diane 35 (dont want to be), and eat a strict diet (no dairy, no gluten) ...the problem is that i have lost too much weight..
im 5'4-5'4 and in august i was 124lbs (august is when i removed gluten) ..im now 110lbs...
plus, i dont feel well...im always tired, no energy, sometimes dizzy..
someone please help!!!!!!!!!
also...i forgot to mention...the endo refuses to prescribe me spironolactone..
and same with my family dr...
why are they so reluctant?
i feel that i could benefit from it..as i believe that my problem is high androgens
Sounds like you probably do. But I'm not an expert. The thing about PCOS is the S stands for syndrome, meaning it's just made up of a bunch of symptoms, I'm not sure how many you have to have to be considered diagnosable, but it sounds like you have a bunch of them.
There are also other metabolic disorders that are very similar to PCOS so it can sometimes be one of those. I know it's very frustrating. I would go to a Reproductive Endocrinologist and tell them your frustrations (that you've seen so many drs and no one can give you a definite diagnosis) before hand and see if they can help you, make sure you ask them what tests results that they would like to see if you have them. There are even specialists in RE that focus on PCOS and Metabolic disorders. I'm sorry you are having so much trouble getting diagnosed. Hang in there.
what other metabolic disorders could it be? im not really educated in other disorders besides pcos..
no one has ever mentioned that it could be something else
thanks
I think you should just go and get another opinion. My hormone levels are normal and I am thin but I have bad acne and facial hair, thinning hair, cysts so I was diagnosed by those symptoms. I am currently going into my third month of spiro and I believe that it is beginning to work...slow but steady...the reproductive endocrinologists was the one to officially diagnose me.
I would have to ask the doctors who say you don't have PCOS, what is causing the classic-PCOS sting of pearls on your ovaries and the LH - FSH ratio > 2 to 1 when you are not on BCP? I know it's trying and expensive to go from doctor to doctor. You might want to find a good gyn or PCP who will talk to you about your symptoms and figure out what specialist you should see. Also try the Soulcyster's board with doctor recommendations and ask for a good one in your area. As for your weight loss, have you tried high calorie protein shakes or something like Ensure in addition to what you already eat? Maybe you should see a Dermatologist for you acne? My Dermatologist is the doc who first suggested I had PCOS.
