Default Do I have Hypothoidism?

I've just started to consider that I could have this along with PCOS and I would really like to know the best and most important tests to ask my doctor to run.

What are the ones that will either diagnose or eliminate Hypothyroidism quickly, I'm trying to avoid even more years of feeling terrible with no relief.

I've read some of the links provided but I'm not sure of the terminology and what it all means so if someone could list the most accurate and best tests and what they should show, i'd be very grateful.

Make sure you tell your doc.all your symptoms you are having. Ask them to run bloodwork checking your TSH,T3,T4,and thyroid antibodies. Also as you are doing research on the thyroid just be aware that you can still have a thyroid problem but it not show up in your bloodwork for awhile.

I kept telling my doctor for years that I felt terrible and all my symptoms were showing hypothyroid according to my research everytime they would test my thyroid it would come back fine. Until I got so irritated I switched docs.I went to a DO instead of MD and one that did western and eastern medicine. He said that even though my bloodwork was fine that based on my symptoms he would put me on a low dose of Armour thyroid medicine,as soon as he did I started feeling better. Eventually it did show up 2 years later that my thyroid wasn't working right and now I am on synthroid and cytomel. So just so you know even if your bloodwork comes back normal but you are not feeling normal keep pushing the topic till you get some answers. The thing about blood levels that I have learned in research is that they change throughout the day so you can take a level in the morning and then in the evening and they will be totally different as well as the fact sometimes your thyroid can be goofy but just not be showing up yet. We know our bodies better than the doctor and better than the bloodwork may say so be your own advocate. Also look into reading a book called Thyroid Power.Very good help as to what to ask your doctor and what you should have tested it is written by a doctor.
God Bless

Ella831, thanks for taking the time to respond. I appreciate all the info and the personal experience. Is the book you mentioned widely available or is it just easier to get it from Amazon?

Thanks again, you've given me a great place to start my journey.

You could very well have hypothyroidism, but it depends on whether or not your doctor is going by the new lab ranges or the old ones. Can you please post your lab results with ranges? If you don't have them, you should be able to call your dr's office and ask what your TSH level is as well as the lab ranges. It would also be helpful to know if they checked your thyroid antibodies and if that came back positive or not.

Also, some people just have lower body temps than others. And, if you're only using one thermometer you may want to make sure it's accurate. I had a bbt thermometer that always showed a lower temp than the other two I purchased.
