Hi everyone. Is it possible to have PCOS without the usually symptoms? I am 18, about 5'9" and weigh 180 lbs but I don't look overweight. I gained 20 lbs from last year but that could be the Freshman 15 or 20 in my case. I have really bad acne. My periods are normal. The only thing that suggest that I might have PCOS is the hisutism. I have thick course hair on my upper lip, chin, chest, legs, arms, and everywhere in between. Its getting worst everyday. I also suffer from anxiety and mild depression. The thing is, my mom also has hisutism and is overweight. Most of her weight is concentrated on stomach but her arms and legs look fine (she looks pregnant even though she is not). I mention hisutism to my pediatrician a few years back and she said it was nothing and basically brushed it off even after I told her that I had abdominal pain on the right side of my abdomen and still do today from time to time. Should I be concern or do i just have crappy genes?
Welcome here!
Don't let the doctor brush you off, if at all possible. I allowed them to do that to me, too, when I was in my teens, and if I'd only been more insistent, I might not have 'unexplained infertility' today. Not to scare you (I hope I'm not!); it's just that family doctors tend to not know much about PCOS.
You could very well have PCOS. The thing about it is that it's a syndrome - with a loose, vague collection of symptoms - so you might have only one symptom. I, for instance, don't look like I fit the description of PCOS at all (no external symptoms), but I definitely have it.
I hope that helps somewhat. Feel free to pm me if you have more questions!
