Default Do I have PCOS

Hi Everyone- Has anyone on here been diagnosed with PCOS even though you have regluar periods. I think I might have PCOS and my doctor thinks I might be on to something. I have one healthy 4 year old and have been trying to get pregnant for 2 years. I have had 4 miscarriages and 1 termination due to triosomy 13. Before today my doctor didn't think I could have this. I have the following symptoms:

Low progesterone
Hair thinning/loss for the past 15 years
weight problems
acne
facial hair
high blood pressure
high cholestrol
always sweeting

I pulled my records from 15 years ago in which my DHEA-S was very elvated and one doctor wrote potential PCOS...never thought anything of it until now b/c of my repeated m/c and I am starting to fit the pieces together.

My doctor is now running bloodwork for DHEA-S, Prolactin, Testostrone and some others.

If it does come back that I have elevated levels and PCOS what can be done to help me have a successful pregnancy.

Any suggestions?

Thanks- Cheryl

Hi Cheryl,

I'm so sorry to hear of your struggles in trying to get pregnant. I'm terribly sorry to hear of your losses. You must be a really strong woman to keep going through all of that!

It sounds like you could have PCOS, but it's best to get your "official" diagnosis with your doctor. It really frustrates me to hear other women out there have had "Possible PCOS" in their histories without the doctor really trying to do anything about it.

Best of luck, and I hope you get some answers that can help you in your journey to fertility.

So sorry for the difficult road you've been on! In terms of what to do if you have PCOS, you may be put on metformin, which can control your blood sugars and can lower testosterone. I was on it for the first trimester, since it also can help prevent miscarriages.

marge-Thank you! When you were on it did you go on to have a child? I should know in a few days what my levels are. It just frustrates me that my RE doctor did ask the right questions to diaganose me. I had to bring it to his attention after 5 miscarriages and pull old medical records from 15 years ago......it really makes me mad if this is what I have and he didn't present this sooner. 1.5 years later and 5 miscarraiges.........sorry to vent!

If I am presribed the Met meds how long does it take to start working?

Cheryl
