Default Do i have a right to my lab results?

I had some lab tests done, ordered by my gynecologist. I can't get another appointment with her for 2 months. I want to see the results so that I can be prepared when I see her, especially since she is so overbooked, and getting another appointment will be difficult. The office said the doctor would discuss the results with me, I could see them then. I want them now! Do i have a right to these results? After all, my 'insurance' (Northwest Territories Health) paid for these to be run....

Hello,

I am not sure. I certainly can't see why not though. They are YOUR results. Hope someone else can help with this.

Check the blue pages for the ministry of health # or call your local mpp. They should be able to tell you. My gut instinct feels you have the right but at the very least you have the right to find out what you are intitled to.

GOOD LUCK

From everything I've heard and read, yes, we are supposed to have access to our health records.

However, actually getting them seems to be difficult. I've asked every one of my docs for copies but still haven't seen a single record.

Good luck!

Yes, You have the RIGHT to any Medical procedure that has ever been done on you. They can not hold any of that from you. I'm just saying this, because I work in the medical field. LOL. But, Honestly.. You are entitled access to all your medical records. NO ONE But you and the DR may view or discuss it... "HIPPA" Policy. Good Luck!

I had to wait for my next visit to discuss the results with my doctor before I received a copy of the lab results. In general, you can print off the informaiton on what the number should look like and take it with you to your next appointment. Once you have the lab results review the information against the information from the guidelines.

Good luck and I hope they are able to fax the result to you before you appointment.

Some doctors don't like to give them out before they've had a chance to discuss the results with you.

I am very impatient when it comes to test results, too. So I call & call & call until they get sick of me and explain things over the phone
