Hey girls,
Just wondering if metformin is necessary to help with ttc if your insulin, blood sugar and body weight are all normal?
I've been avoiding going down the prescription meds path just yet but so many of you seem to be taking this.
Thanks
I have heard of cinnamon being used to help regulate your cycles but I haven't tried it.
I have however tried clomid 3 rounds this yoear and 3 last year with no bfp but did end up with cyst.
So I'm not sure if this helps you any but there are plenty of natural routes to try before going to the meds, you just have to figure out what is stopping you from O'ing if that is the case.

Kiwicyster – I absolutely hated being on met… I was moody, hungry, craved carbs like crazy, bloated, tired, sickish etc. But, so many cysters swear by in, and there have been so many promising studies out there that I think it’s worth a try for sure. I’m finding drs are much more willing to prescribe met than before… even compared to 2 years ago. It seems to have become a more widely accepted treatment for PCOS.
Personally, I prefer to take the more natural route. I eat very low carb, and when I follow it diligently I get good results from it. I have more energy, sleep better, skin is better, and my hairloss (my worst symptom) gets better. Others have tried the insulin resistance diet or similar plans and have gotten really good results – they are less drastic than cutting out carbs completely. Just an idea!

Skittles – low carb is a general term, it just means controlling or limiting the amount of carbohydrates you eat. (Carbohydrates come from fruit, breads/grains, potatoes, sugar etc.) Some people just follow their own version of “low carb” (i.e. cut out refined sugars and limit breads), and some people like to follow a specific plan like Atkins, South Beach diet, or Insulin Resistance diet – there are tons out there. These plans can vary in the severity of the carbohydrate restriction.
If you are really interested in this stuff, and if you are going to follow one of these programs I highly recommend buying/reading the book – they are very informative and will teach you the fundamentals of low carb eating.
That’s just my opinion, I love learning about nutrition!

thanks for your answers - I eat a pretty low carb diet, not as strict as I was but then I was underweight when I was super strict!
I have heard about cinnamon and insulin however and have had it in my breakfast (protein shake) for ages!
I think you are right in that it depends what's causing the conception problem.

oh yeah, and skittles, if you don't have a weight problem low GI foods or the low GI (glycaemic index) diet can be something to look at too. Still improves your insulin level but allows you carbs so not so much weightloss. The last phase of Atkins is actually really a low GI diet.

I have normal insulin and my dr. put me on met alone to start out. She didn't tell me to change my diet but because of the side effects of the met I have had to cut down and out alot of what I eat. So far I have been on the pills for about 6 weeks and got AF 8 days in. Hopefully I will have a "normal" cycle this time around and DH and I will get a wonderful suprise!!!
