Ok so first HI!! :0) I haven't been here in a LONNNNGGG time! But i'm back on my Met for a few months now and just about 2 weeks ago went up to 1500 mg and OMG I have a new best friend (only i don't have time to keep visiting her! ughh) I work and go to school so i'm hardly ever home and have this huge fear of using public bathrooms Moreso because of the embarrassment! Anywho i was wondering WHAT can i eat w/out upsetting my stomache? Anything that any of you have done to make it less harsh? I'm open to any suggestions OTHER than quitting cause this time i HAVE to stick it out.

I noticed that when I would eat "bad" lots of carbs from white bread to anything that turns to sugar I would be visiting the toliet gods all to often myself. Check out what is in your diet that may be effecting your sugar controllers. Met works to help metabolize and slow down a cysters path or totatlly avoid a path to diabetes. Which is a sugar/insulin kind of disease. Find your hidden sugars and cut them out. At least for the time being. Also keep drinking lots of water if you are using the bathroom to much chances are you also becoming dehydrated so keep drinking the water.
Oh and BTW I am so with you on the public restrooms. I never use public restrooms either.

I had this problem for a long time while taking Met, but what really helped was taking Zantac 150mg. before I took the Metformin. You just take it once a day, and it really, really helps. If you can't find the 150mg. tablets, just buy the 75mg. and take them both. Good luck~

I just live with it and don't take it if I am not able that day to be ALONE in the toilet in the morning...and then at night (take 2nd dosage then)...I SKIP IT.
Not great advise but my problem is really bad and NOTHING helps. NOTHING. My doctor knows too and there is nothing he can do.
I was given though the option of stopping the drugs since all my tests now are normal...but I choose to continue awhile longer...till I can shed 20 more pounds.

Hi cyster,
I'm so sorry you're having met troubles! I was just going to say what some other cysters said, about watching the carbs, and also taking the met right in the middle of your meal.
Hope you feel better soon!
Hugs
Jenny

I found there were things I could eat that don't bother me so on those days when I'm traveling, and don't want to use public toilets for anything more substantial than a quick pee, I just eat a simple breakfast and pack a sandwich for lunch.
Breakfast - Whole grain cereal with milk and a cup of coffee. I like oatmeal, wheatabix, or shredded wheat - anything you find that has very few 'extra' ingredients. If I need it sweeter I use splenda.
Mid morning snack - if needed - fruit and cereal bar like nutragrain. They have some sugar in them and that perks me up until lunch. I keep them in my backpack when I travel along with a bottle of water.
Lunch - plain ham or chicken on lightly buttered whole grain bread. I find rye best but whole wheat will do. I tend to avoid multigrain breads with lots of seeds because some of them can be bad news particularly those with pumpkin seeds. Try to skip the mayo if you can. If you need a bit of variety add a slice of cheese. I like a sprinkle of chili powder on plain chicken or ham with a squeeze of ketchup.
It may sound terribly boring but when I'd rather avoid public toilets it does the trick.
