Question Do I really need Met???

I got my blood work done in December and here here were the levels:

Fasting Insulin 17.3
(1/2hr. 99.5; 1hr. 124.0; 2hrs. 131.0)
Glucose 81
Progesterone 5.0

What does this mean?? Do I need met or not? My Dr says I'm IR.
According to the charts I look at on line it doesnt look like I am. Im on 500mg met once a day.

Any opinions?

Thanks!
Jenn

My RE puts all PCOS patients on met whether IR or not. Also, most doctors think that with PCOS you should be taking at LEAST 1500 mg a day.

Good luck!

Anything above 10 on a fasting insulin test is considered IR. While your glucose is normal (for now) your body is pumping out extra insulin because your body isn't utilizing the insulin effectively. Over time, this can lead to high blood sugars (diabetes). And Stacie's right, you will need to build up to at least 1500 mg a day (the minimum effective dose for women with PCOS).

Thanks girls! I was starting to wonder why my dr has me on this med. He told me that my insulin was high but at the time I was so distracted by the fact I was dx with PCOS I didn't think to ask about the levels. So today I called and the nurse read me my chart. Not really knowing what it all means I though I would ask some people who have been through it already. Many thanks!

I'm a little disappointed he hasn't upped my dosage. I go back on 5/23 so hopefully he will bumped me up to atleast 1000mg. Its already been 3 months.

Thanks again...Any more advice I will gladly take it.
