I'm not sure if I belong here or not but I thought I'd post here from some advice.
These are my symptoms that make me think that all is not right with my hormones:
Large, inflamed angry spots that are more like cysts. They hurt and are v. ugly. Nothing makes them go and they leave scars.
Increasing amount of facial hair (dark whiskers that are very noticeable), bikini line is spreading down my inner thigh and dark hairs around my nipples (sorry to be so graphic).
Mood swings, especially anger and depression.
Overweight (but that is my fault - I have an incredible sweet tooth).
I have approached my GP twice about this. The first time I was told that I was depressed and left with a prescription for ADs. The second time I was told that these symptoms were side effects of having the Depo Provera contraceptive injection.
I had my last Depo jab last week - I know it takes some time to leave your body and will be using alternative non-hormonal contraceptives in future. I am getting married next year and would like to try for a family soon after that.
I am 32 but I have the complexion of a pubescent boy - hairy and spotty, not to mention moody and chubby.
I think I need to go and see a doctor about this but I'm not sure. I don't want to waste anyone's time (I get quite anxious about visiting doctors) and don't want to be fobbed off.
Any advice would be very welcome. Thanks for your time.
That incredible sweet tooth may be due to insulin issues and the other hormonal imbalances of PCOS, so it may not be all your fault. Just my thoughts on that comment....

Take the quiz, do some research and take it to your doctor. I know docs can be scary but I always look at it in the most altruistic and vain way. For example, I am seeing this doc because I want to get rid of the hair and loose weight. Get a referral to see an endocronologist because it sounds to me that you indeed have PCOS.
GL and don't be afraid to ask anything here....theres no such thing as TMI here....

roo72,
I am seeing a new Reproductive Endocrinologist... my first visit he told me that the only "real" two things he looks for in a diagnosis is 1: irregular periods or none at all, and 2: hair on your body (like face or abdomen) that shouldn't be there. The other symptoms (there are many) are all different for each women. So you can have a mixture!!! Sounds fun, huh??
I would look into seeing an Endocrinologist, in my experience they know more than most regular gyno's since this is a hormone syndrome. I've really benefitted from reading and posting on here... so don't be a stranger!!! Best of luck
I would definatley bring up your concerns of pcos with your doctor.
Good luck!

If you think that you might have PCOS, definitely talk to your doctor about it. There's no such thing as being too informed about your health!
My doc diagnosed me because I had very irregular periods (about 3 a year before I went on birth control), lots of hair everywhere except on the top of my head, acne, and weight that's easy to gain but really hard to lose. But there are a lot of different symptoms and we don't all have the same ones. So I would definitely suggest talking to your doctor about it.
There's lots of information here in articles and past threads. I hope that you find the answers you're looking for and please don't be afraid to ask questions! (((HUGS)))!!!
