Question Do symptoms worsen/change?

I am newly diagnosed and freaking out. My current symptoms are no period (it's been 6 months), mild extra-hairiness, and acne. I am currently not overweight or losing any hair. I am confused about what my diagnosis means for future symptoms. Should I expect to gain weight and grow a beard? Or if I don't have those symptoms now, does that mean that my current symptoms are my personal version of PCOS?

If anyone has input regarding their experience with changing symptoms, it would help me a lot.

Thanks.

Hello purple,

Welcome to the board! I can't answer for some of the other ladies on here, but for me, a lot of my symptoms have moderated since my diagnosis. I have yet to grow a full beard, ha ha, but some of the hair in (shall we say) stranger places have either not grown back as fast or have pretty much dissapeared. I have lost 65 lbs so far since being diagnosed, so no worries there. Just remember that this is a syndrome, so not everybody has the same symptoms, it's just the nature of the beast. Good luck to you.

Well, the bad news is that PCOS symptoms usually do get worse with age. Mine certainly have.

BUT, the good news is that now that you know you have it you can take measures to make things better. So you actually should beable to make your symptoms better, not worse. Many of my symptoms get worse or better depending on my diet, and I wonder if part of the reason they typically get worse as we age is because of unchecked diet and lifestyle choices. So if you had gone undiagnosed things may have gotten worse. But now you know and you can learn and implement lifestyle changes ao you can stay healthy and improve the symptoms that you do have. Also there are many drugs out there that make a big difference for many of us.

So overall I would say not to be worried about things getting worse, beyond worrying enough to stay motivated to be as healthy as you can be. This will act as a preventative to the symptoms worsening. In my experience as long as I am consience about my diet and exercise my sypmtoms stay pretty well in control. It's when I go extended periods of time not paying attention to my health that they start to get worse and new symptoms start that I haven't had before. Good luck!
