hey everyone~
I was just wondering if anyone has had no symptoms AT ALL prior to using any kind of hormonal birth control and then had pcos symptoms only when they stopped...? That is what happened to me. When I was 18 I went on the pill for controception, never had any acne, excess hair, hair loss, nothing EVER. Then I stopped and BAM baadd acne, oily skin, hairloss, and more hair in other places! I have not been diagnosed w/ pcos but I have lots of the symptoms when i go off the pill. I am not overweight however and always have my period so I really dont know. What I do know is that everything was great until this pill and now i feel like im going to have to take it for the rest of my life. I know that is not possible though. Has this happened to any of you girls? I dont know why they dont worn women that they can possibly get a permanent hormonal imbalance from these pills.......So devistating. thanks in advance for any comments

I've never heard of bcp's causing pcos. However, it's possible that you had it and just didn't know it because you hadn't had any symptoms prior to going on the pill. I know there are women on here who found out they had pcos as teenagers but I wasn't diagnosed until I was 32.

i had a few problems! in MY case - i put a lot of my problems on bcp as before i handled my pcos fine til iwas told it was the only way to move forward by a stupid doctor i was then nearly hospitalised for a solid heavy 5 mnth af and 2 sucide attempts! lol yeah i think bcp and pcos have to be judged VERY carefully in each case!! its not a yes or no answer!! but everything was 10 fold afterbeing on bcp xx

I had a very irregular cycle prior to going on bcp. My doctor said to me that you are born with this and there is nothing that was done that caused it or will make it go away....

BCPs are known to cause Insulin Resistance which in turn seems to be the basis of PCOS. Most of the drug facts included with BCPs mention that they may cause IR.
i didnt say i thought it had caused it but i do beleve it is not the answrr for most women as it doesnt help anything it just uts it all on pause at best!!

Thank u for the comments! Maybe thats it! It caused me to have insulin resistans thus making my testosterone high....but i am not overwaight so i dont know. I have stayed the same weight since i was like 16....well maybe i gain about 5 lbs since being on the pill but thats all. I am 20 btw. I will ask my doc to test me for IR. Thank u girls!

This is my experience. I was going on the pill when I was 17. He put me on ortho. After I began taking them I started showing massive signs of PCOS. It really messed me up and I have not been the same since then. I think he should have done blood work before putting me on a pill. I had not even heard of PCOS then. When I went back to him that is when he told me that he thinks I have PCOS. I went to an OB/GYN and that is when I found out. I believe if he had done the blood work he could have put me on a different pill and it would not have been so bad.
