Unhappy Do you ever get off Metformin?

Or do you take it for the rest of your life?

I have been on Glucophage for almost a year now (2nd time around on it) and I dont want to take something like this fowever. I asked my doctor about it and he did not give me a straight answer on this. I dont want to suffer any long-term damaged from taking Glu too long.

I asked my doctor the same question and really didn't get a great answer myself. What I understood was once I achieve pg and have a baby it might be best to control symptoms with BCP and spiro. What I understand PCOS to be is a decreased insulin sensitivity which can go on to cause heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure etc. So my feeling is if keeping my insulin levels down with met works, why not keep taking it and try to prevent long term health problems. I am not sure BCP will do the same thing, maybe they do, I'll have to ask again.

However if liver tests are showing damage from the met, then definitely I want off.

Wink

My endo told me that i would probably be on it for life...at least a maintenance dose to keep my IR under control. If I stopped taking it, I would have work extremely hard just to maintain my weight. Hope this helps....but I guess each cyster's case is unique. I'm still losing weight, so we're going to kind of cross each bridge as we come to it.
