Default Do you have this?

I live in ND, we have long, cold winters, which also means short days and long nights. I get very depressed in the winter and I'm thinking it's due to the lack of sunshine. I just feel really down. My happiest days are always the sunniest days. I know there is a word for this but I can't think of it. A long time ago someone mentioned this sun/light box thing that you can put in your house that is suppose to help with this and I'm just wondering if anyone else suffers with this. Today is the first day of fall and I'm just thinking that maybe if I get myself prepared this year, I won't get so depressed, you know? I'd love to hear from anyone who has experienced anything like this. thanks!

Yup!
Seasonal affective disorder!
Tanning helps - but I also do not live as far north as you.
I have heard of the light box. - i know Tickled Pink has one (she is up in Canada) and says it makes all the difference - you may want to ask her for the name of the brand she got - I know she loves it.

I get affected by weather too. When it's cloudy for a few days in a row I definitely feel a difference. I haven't gotten a litebook yet, but I want to get one.

Otherwise I just try to get in the sun as much as possible. If I'm working or if I have classes, I try to spend some time at lunch by a window or glass door. If I'm home and it's not cloudy, I'll nap in the sun in the afternoon. Luckily, even though it gets incredibly cold, it still gets sunny sometimes.

I have a terrible time with the weaher too, and I'm already worried about how I'm going to get through this winter. I find that if it's grey outside I just feel so low and tend not to go out at all... which is BAD! Definitely look into the lightbox thing, although I can't offer you any advice on that, but I'm going to look into it myself.

I get this too... would love to have a lightbox but I can't afford it. I find the cold makes me miserable too as I have other health problems that the cold and dampness makes worse, which I think adds to my general feeling of lowness during the winter. Unfortunately about 8 months of the year are not sunny here

A halogen lamp can help if you can't afford a lightbox. It isn't as good, it sucks electricity and it can't be left on unattended, but it can usually be picked up for under $20. The literature is split on the subject of whether or not SAD sufferers need full spectrum lighting or just access to bright light.

Here's one guy's experience. He picked a slightly more expensive full spectrum halogen.
