Question Do you have continuous or prolonged af?

Hi,

I was just wondering how many people with pcos also have continuous or prolonged af/bleeding as the common symptom with pcos is lack of af!

Over the past few years I have had spells where I have non-stop bleeding upto a few months long where I have had to go to the dr's and had to have progesterone tablets to stop it. Then I've missed a few months then maybe have a prolonged af for a couple of weeks then maybe a normal - i.e 28 day cycle then it gets messed up again! It's all over the place.

The dr doesn't seem too concerned and just say its my weight, pcos or thyroid - have underactive thyroid which is now under contol with 125mcg.

If anyone else is going through the same thing, I'd like to know, I'm also ttc so this doesn't help, although I am going to dr's next week and asking for met.

Thanks for listening x

You are not alone. I have had a period last for as long as 8 months. I would have a day or two that I would stop during the 8 months and then start right back up. I have been taking herbs and my usually months long periods have turned in to a little over a week long, which is a huge improvement. I hope the Met helps you. Here is a link you might want to check out. HTH.

I have been bleeding since October 25 and today is the 20th of november...
On October 4 I had a period that lasted about 7 days...This is seriously a problem. My sex life is basically non existant and their is only so much "other" things you can do before you become bored with it all...I have had an ultrasound and all these tests...my uterus is fine, there is blood flow to my "enlarged" ovaries..and I don't have cysts, tumors, edometris, fibroids..just PCOS..and not only do I have excessive hair, thinning hair on my head, most dreadful acanthosis...now the period that has no end...THank God my mate loves me...because I think this prolonged period is the worst sympton...
We are very sexual people - daily sexual people-with a break during menses...but now that I haven't had a break, we have both had attitudes, insecurities and everything else..and last night we just said we need a candlelight dinner and some quiet time holding each other and reflecting on our love...but I am so tempted to just grab a condom and a towel and go for broke

I go to obgyn Wednesday and since we are ttc I don't want to do BCP...what other things can they give me to stop this bleeding I heard progesterone may work..I need some Metformin to from what I hear

Your cycle sounds exactly like mine. From late July to late August I bled for a month. Then AF went away for 2 weeks during which I had cramps daily. On Sept 7th AF came back for 7 days and I haven't had a period since. The only time that I was regular, on a strict 30 day cycle that is, was when I was very strictly low-carbing.

Unhappy tired of AF

I've had my AF for about a month now. it varies from light to extremely heavy with lots of clots. I'm assuming this has to do with PCOS. I was diagnosed at the beginning of the month and I have an appointment with my GP on Friday and with a Gyno in two weeks. My GP wants to put me on Metformin. I'm also seeing a Naturopath (who was the one to suggest PCOS in the first place). She has told me to take a combo of 1tsp ground flax seed and 1tsp pumpkin seeds every day for two weeks and then 1tsp sesame seeds for another two weeks which is supposed to regulate my hormones. She also has me on a liver detox diet which consists of a lot of brown rice (yuck) and cruciferous veggies and fruit.

I'm hoping that between the naturopath, the metformin and the gyno as well as working out I can have the baby that I so desperately want very soon.

Ditto to nearly everything. I don't get AF unless I am on BCP so when I start taking the estrogen again it stops it after about 7 days. I get constant spotting if I am not on BCP and it ranges from light to moderate but is never heavy enough to be mistaken as AF.

I was having this problem and I went to visit my OB. Since we are ttc, I didn't want to take bcp. I also wasn't ready to take Clomid or other fertility drugs. She recommended that since I already take Met that I should start using NPC. I use the NPC from cd 14 until my flow starts. I have been using it for about 6 months now and my period now lasts for about 7 days on a 35 day cycle.

I highly recommend!

Trish

Yeah I have the same thing. I had no period for August and September and then I bled all of October until yesterday. I'm TTC too and it's so frustrating. I'm asking for Met too. Good luck to ya!

I used to have this problem al the time...until I was put on depo for a year and a half. Of course, no way to get pregnant on depo, but boy, was it sex like bunnies time! On the other hand, I hear that once a woman gets off depo, for about 3 months she's *very* fertile. And, since getting off it I've been quite regular. (Although my hirsuitism did go back to the level it had been pre-depo within a couple of months--which was worse than during depo.) Now, I have a 34 day cycle. It's regular enough and only lasts about 4 days.

Thank you for asking this, and thanks to those who replied with advice. This is what I'm going through, too! It's definitely not awesome but you're not alone! :/

::hugs::

Hi,

Thanks everyone for replying, It's awful to hear what you're all going through but at least we know we're not alone. Seeing Dr this Fri, will let you know how I get on and also going to try a herbalist and maybe reflexology and accupuncture.

Nicola.

I kid you not my period miraculously stopped....I bled from October 25 to November 25 exactly...I did have a couple of days in between of no bleeding like one or two--but my bf and I would always find it short lived if we tried to do it in between there...Now it has been gone for 3 days no spotting and we have been getting busy continuosly..I start my Met today--so hopefully I won't go thru this again...The funny thing is that on November 25 night my bf had a dream his sister was prego --he asked in his dream was her bf the daddy and she said NO...that same night I had a dream that my period stopped because I was pregnant and you could actually feel my uterus pouching out in my dream...I know in real life that is probably unlikely...but it was weird...
