My dad was adopted from St John's, Canada. He never wated to find his bio-parents but when we went to Niagra Falls, Montreal and Tronto for vacation one year, he did ask how far St. John's was from those areas. I've asked many times if we could find out more info about his medical history, so I know what to look out for in my own children, if and when I have my own. I only know about an arthritis that only affects boys and possibly adult on set diabites, but nothing else. I'm sure my bio-grandparents, are probably gone by now and everytime I bring it up he says they gave me up why should I care who they are. I guess he figures whatever happens to him, happens.

My little sister and I were raised by my maternal grandmother since we were babies. My mother suffers from mental illness and we do not know who our fathers are. My grandmother had 8 children of her own and then she raised my sister and I. In 2002 she died of a massive heart attack unexpectedly and I took custody of my little sister when she was 13 and I was only 20. It has been a struggle but she is such a good kid and she will be off to college this summer. I am so proud of her. I will be struggling from empty nest syndrome at the age of 25. LOL.

We always knew that we had an older brother and also a younger brother but we had never met either of them. My older brother was raised by his father's grandparents since he was a baby. In 2003 we got the opportunity to meet him. His great grandparents had passed away and he did not really have a family. Since we have met we are inseperable. I now have the big brother (now 26) that I never had as a child and he enjoys his two little sisters (now 24 and 17). We look forward to having our own families and enjoying each other for the rest of our lives.

Our youngest brother who would be about 12 or 13 now was put up for adoption because my grandmother felt that she was just too old by the time that he was born to take him in also. I remember someone telling me what his adoptive parents names were but I can not seem to remember. He was adopted through CYS in our city as a foster child so someday I may be able to find out more information. I just figure that right now he is still a child and maybe someday he will try to find us when he is older. Either way I am sure that he is happy and I do have some pictures of him when he was a baby that his parents sent to us so I just try to imagine what he is like today.

DH and I have been TTC for over 2 years but we are also strongly considering adoption because I will love my family whether my children are biological or not. We have looked into international adoption from Guatemala and China so hopefully someday in the next year or so we will get things started.

Thanks for letting me share my story about adoption. I think that adoption is wonderful and genes do not make a family... LOVE does!

    Michele,

Thank you so much for sharing your story. My boys are separated from their younger brother and sister. My heart is conflicted knowing they will not be raised together, but reading your story you've given me hope to know everything will be OK and one day when they are old enough, they will still be able to have a close relationship.

I'm adopted and about 4 years ago contacted my bithmother. I called her on a Friday afternoon and invited her to my graduation from community college. I met her, her husband, and my two sisters at my parents house before the graduation ceramony. My mom set up pictures she had taken of me growing up all over the house for Sherry to see when she came to the house. I still keep in contact with them and try to get to see them a few times a year, which is hard because of the distance. After meeting her and my wonderful sisters I wish that I could meet my biological father. Sherry was 15 when she had me and isn't very forthcoming about who my father is soI dont think that I'll ever get to meet him.

I was adopted at about a month after I was born through Catholic Charities of Hampton Roads. They are pretty much against helping me find my birthparents and I veryyyy much want to find them. It was a private adoption so I really don't know anything about them. I live in the same area now that they did when they gave me up. Makes me wonder if I'm ever in a grocery store line with them or maybe if they are in the car next to mine at a stop light.

Liz I was adopted through Catholic Charities in Peoria, they wern't helpful at all either. I was pretty much told if my birthparents wern't signed up in their system as wanting contact they couldn't help me, but I still had to pay around $300 to find out! Luckly I had my birthmothers last name from the medicare card my parents were sent on accident. If you havent already I'd try to get your original birth certificat unsealed. I'm trying to do that right now to find my birthfather. If I can help at all with info or support PM me. Good luck.
