Do you have to have irregular periods to have PCOS?
I went to the ob/gyn and saw someone new. When she was done looking at me she mentioned I have insulin resistance. She because my labia was pigmented a darker color. We then got into a discussion about PCOS. I have a lot of symptoms. Thinning hair, insulin resistance, depression, high DHEA-S, high triglycerides... I have felt really bad for 3 years now revolving around my periods. I saw 3 endos, 2 doctors and just gave up which I know isn't the best solution but I am tired of all this. Then I see this new woman for the pap smear and she seemed to think I had PCOS too. I have another appt. in 3 weeks with her. Do you have to have irregular periods and cysts or be considered PCOS? I had an internal ultrasound which showed nothing however the doc said they dont always show up.
I have PCOS and have regular periods. You can have regular periods and still not ovulate which further adds to hormonal imbalance. I have read that you don't have to have cysts to have the syndrome. Hopefully you finally have a doctor who will listen to you because that is half the battle right there. I doctored for 20 years before they diagnosed me.
My periods have been regular every month except for last month which occured twice. I got diagnosed with PCOS approx. a month ago when seeing my doctor to plan for an ICSI. The ultrasound showed about 30 eggs, no cysts. My hormone tests came back with high LH levels. Other than a mild depression which is aleviated with Vitamin B-Complex, all is normal. In fact, I'm a little underweight and always trying to keep weight up to a healthy level (high metabolic rate?) I would never have known about PCOS if not for this trip to the Doc.
