Default do you have to low carb on met?

Hi,
I'm new here. I've been living with PCOS for about 16years. I recently started reading a lot about the correlation between IR and PCOS. I'm thin, but decided to try the low carb diet. I have an appt to get metformin on Fri. Is there any benefit to low carb diet when you are on metformin?

Thanks,
Julie

I don't know the answer to your question. i am a thin cyster too (5'11'' 135 lb) and I have just started to low carb to try to get my cycles shorter and improve my chances of conceiving. if this doesn't work, i will try met in a couple of months.
my guess would be that there is a benefit to low carbing and taking met. met is making your insulin receptors more efficient at removing the sugar from the blood. low carbing should reduce the amount of sugar that gets in your blood so you don't get a ton all at once- it is released more slowly...with that rationale doing both should really be helpful. you don't have to go really, really low carb, but maybe just moderate (no refined sugar, sodas, juices, sweets and lite on the bread- switch to brown rice, wheat pasta, multigrain bread- things that are converted to sugars more slowly and have fiber which is not converted to sugar.
let me know what your dr. thinks.

Cool re: low carb and met.

Hi, I don't know about low carb whilst on Met. although I am just embarking on a low carb diet. I have been on Met. for 4 months and it hasn't worked at all, so as a last resort, before the doc. takes me off the drug, I will try to low carb. too. Would be good to hear what the docs. have to say about it. I should imagine it would help.

Best of luck.

Jayne.
