Recently I went to my Dr, to discuss a few things, eg like when I went to see the Gynae who basically said loose weight. The Dr was reading up on my notes, and the notes sort of says that I don't have PCOS, When I went to see the Endo, they did all sorts of tests and basically said that everthing was fine. which really confused me.
Has anyone else been through this, thinking that you might have Pcos and then decide that you don't have PCOS.
Yes I do have the horrible symptoms, tummy pain, irregular bleeding, excessive hair etc.
Well, thats the thing about PCOS, its different for everyone. Sometimes us cysters have come back with "normal" range results, however PCOS can be diagnosed with a range of symptoms. It is important to rule out other causes as well, if your doctor does not think you have PCOS what do they think you have? Have you been on any medication that could affect the tests? You mentioned weight loss, sometimes this can normalise levels.

keep pursuing it. If you feel that you have the symptoms of pcos, just keep bringing it up. Most of my tests came back in the normal range, and my dr kept telling me I didn't have it. I kept working with his rn/cpn, who is fantastic, and she was finally able to diagnose me because she was the only one who actually listened to what I was saying and took my concerns seriously.

The same thing happened to me.. Other Gynos would tell me to just lose weight and others would do blood tests but not the right ones so the ones that they did do came out normal. Finally I went to my current gyno and he did tests and recommended I go see my RE and together they we put it all together and realized I had PCOS. I had gone to at least 5 other Gynos before I found one who would listen to what I was saying and not just brush me off and say "lose weight and you'll be fine!"
When I think back on it I get so irritated!

Definately get another opinion. I think I just found out that my PCOS diagnosis was incorrect and I in fact had POF. I am 42 now and started having really messed up periods when I was 26 or so - stopping altogether in my late 20's to early 30's.
Good luck and be aggressive about getting info. I wish I had been less trusting of my doctors at the time.

I'm one of the cysters who has "normal" bloodwork. My LH and FSH levels were fine on their own except the ratio was off. My testosterone levels were also normal although on the higher end of the scale. I was diagnosed with the weird LH/FSH ratio, infertility, cysts on my ovaries, and my insulin resistance, etc. Bloodwork alone does not determine if you have PCOS or not. It is a culmative thing.

Hmm. Yeah, I'm sorta in the same boat. My b/w was largely okay though they were "borderline" (i.e, testosterone high norma, etc.). My Re said I have "pco-ish" ovaries but not really pcos. I'm not convinced though cuz the more I read about pcos, the more I think I fit the diagnosis. h

All of my blood work was completely normal, even my ratios where good. They did say my prolactin was a little low, but still within a normal range. Most of my life I have had regular cycles too. I've only had 3-4 instances where af didn't come on a regular basis. The two most recent were 90 days in 2002 (got af because I went back on bcp) and 85 days in June of this year (af was induced by provera). The most recent cycle of 85 days was when I was diagnosed. My doctor diagnosed me based on the other symptoms I had and a sonogram view of my ovaries. My ovaries were classic pcos as he put it, they are covered in cysts. Excess black hair (my natural hair color is light brown) on my feet, inner thighs, hands and some random black coarse hairs that come up in the strangest places (few on my arms, one on my cheek etc). Also suffer from acne (sometimes it's worse than others), dandruff, oily skin etc.
Since getting af after having ds, it was been horrible. Really really bad cramps, super heavy 7 day flows. That was my doctor's first clue that I had pcos, the sonogram just confirmed his suspicions. I didn't even know what pcos was until he diagnosed me. Sorry to be so long winded, I just wanted you to know you can have pcos and still have completely normal blood work. I agree with the pp, I would find another doctor who is more familiar with pcos and get a second opinion.

I've been in the same boat. I tried for years to get my doctor to diagnose PCOS b/c I was exhibiting lots of the symptoms but since my insulin levels always checked normally she wouldn't diagnose me.
Finally, this spring at my annual visit, I said, "Look, I know you are saying that I don't test right for PCOS but I still think I have it. I have all these symptoms and I've read that a person can have PCOS even if their insulin levels test normally." She finally had my hormone levels checked and guess what? My testosterone was 100. She sent me to an Endo and I'm now on Met.
