The most recent studies (more info in the FAQ thread if you want to read more) are showing the greatest success with met is for ladies who have 1) high male hormones (androgen, testosterone) and 2) irregular or non-existant periods. If you fit this criteria, I would talk to your Dr about a met trial.
Hope it helps!

I agree with Christy. There is definite medical evidence that met can help thin cysters - even those of us who are not IR.
Not all docs prescribe met for cysters who aren't overweight. If you think you may need help pursuading him/her, you may want to bring copies of the research studies Christy mentioned (there are a few others posted in the thin cysters forum as well). If your doc is still reluctant to give you met, then find another doc who will. I say this because I am also thin, and it took a little effort (and a consultation with a new doc) for me to get a prescription for met.
Best of luck!
Lissa

I don't know if you remember me or not. But I was struggling trying to get Metformin prescribed from my doctor. I am normal weight, have PCOS, ammenorrhea and lil weight gain (15lbs) since going on and off BCPS. I am just starting Met today !! SO excited. I just want to know from those who are normal weight NON-IR (like myself), how Met affects you. Do you get a period right away??? I am an "experiment' for my endo since most PCOS patients they see are overweight. Thanks!!!
I am normal weight and not-IR. I got my first AF 30 days after starting met (500mgs) - which brought a long (76 day) cycle to an end. My next cycle was 58 days. But this last one - an amazing 25 days! Wow! On CD1 today. I'm so excited.
It looks like I O'd last cycle too and had a 14 day luteal phase (my temp chart is a little weird though). I'm going to see what this new cycle brings - but hopefully it will be normal in length.
I upped my met dose to 2,000mgs about 3 weeks ago. I am taking some other supplements, but haven't been for very long, so really think the met is hard at work.
Congrats on convincing your endo to give you met! Hope it works for you!
Good luck!
Lissa
ETA: I should also mention that I had blood work done on CD3 of my last cycle - and the results were much better than I expected. I'm still waiting on a copy, so don't have acutal numbers, but my male hormones were normal, my free testosterone was slightly high, and my LH:FSH ratio was < 2:1! It's been years since I've had blood work done, and that was on a random day in the middle of a never-ending cycle. So, I have no reference point for comparison. But, I have no doubt that these labs were lower than what they would have been pre-met. So, yay met!
