Default Do you worry about kids?

I know that most of us here at 14+. THere may be some that are a little younger. Not sure!

I heard somewhere, maybe here somewhere, that teens that have PCOS are worried more than their peers about fertility.

SO...with all that being said, do you worry now about having kids later?

I am very worried about being able to have children. Other than becoming a Special Education teacher, becoming a mother is something that i really, really want to do. I am only 18 and I was diagnosed earlier this year and ever since being dxed I have really thought about it because I really love babies!,lol I plan on adopting whether or not I am able to have children but I pray that I can have kids!!!!

I'm just out of my teens, but I wanted to respond to this anyway because it's been weighing on my mind. My mother and we suspect my grandmother both have PCOS. Obviously they both had children. But I also know that doesn't guarantee that I will. When I first learned about PCOS and fertility problems, it didn't bother me. I was 18. I've never been someone to sit around dreaming of having children, and at the time I thought maybe I never would have any, so it was interesting information but it wasn't absolutely devestating to me at the time.

Fast forward to now, I'm in a serious relationship with a man I love. When I think about us growing old together, it breaks my heart to think I might not be able to give him the family he really wants. He definitely looks forward to having a family, and has for a long time. I'm afraid that we'll get married and I'll be the one keeping us from having that.

I will be 21 next week but I have that fear for more than one reasons. I have already been pregnant and had a miscarriage. My sister is 20 and has a 5 month old child and I agree with Collen! It is not easy at all and when you get pregnant young there is a more of a 50% chance that the dad ends up leaving!

I've always wanted alot of children, pref 4-6. My opinion is that my life wont be truely fulfilled untill i have a child. I was devasted when i was told i'de have trouble having children but it wont stop me from trying as hard as i can. I dont want to panick for nothing n then have children without any difficulties. I take each day as it comes n worry about it when or if it happens.

You know, I never wanted kids and I never worried about it until I was diagnosed. Off and on, I'll find myself upset that I may not have a choice. But there are so many women on this site who have had success concieving, so I find that heartening. Plus, technology has progressed so far, and who knows where it will be in 5 years? 10?

That is a very good point!

I can only hope that technology is a little more advanced.

Hi,
I'm "already" 24 (25 on wed), but just wanted to say that
I got pregnant twice in my teens, not knowing I had PCOS (I've prob had it since I was 14... got one period a year max, but got pregnant "easily"... or so I thought!), lost both.
The first pregnancy was spontaneous, the second after coming off the BCP and the third (at 22) after one course of cortisone (was dxed then, but not told it was PCOS...).
My dd is 2yrs7months now.
You'd think I could get pregnant, but all of the above have been unplanned and "accidents".
When I actually TRIED to get pregnant it wouldn't work (no meds, temping showed I wasn't ovulating at all, no periods)!
On BCP now and will push for Met which will hopefully help once I decide to have another and come off the pill...
Thought I'd share, sorry for intruding!

I think that I am seeing a pattern. Maybe I am seeing this wrong. In your teens you are able to get preg easier. Maybe?

I wouldn't necessarily say that.
Of ourse you're at your most fertile between the ages of 16 and 25 or whatever they say, but that applies to every woman.
I haven't really been trying in my 20's... I'm assuming that the cortisone treatment made me ovulate, which I normally wouldn't, so I got pregnant on the first cycle (wasn't taking the cortisone for fertility reasons, ie NOT trying to get pregnant!).
It COULD be true, however, now that i've already got a young child and other things going on in my life, I'm paying a lot more attention to the actual "planning" of a pregnancy, ie temperature charting, ovulation tests, taking vitamins and herbals, diet etc. etc. -so, of course it's going to feel it's taking longer because I'm spending so much time on preparing and then BDing (baby dancind) at the right time... so that each time you take a pregnancy test you get your hopes up, whereas in my teens, the two times I could actually be bothered to take a pregnancy test, they were positive.
Anyway, don't worry too much -for me it was fairly easy to get pregnant after coming off the pill and even if that doesn't apply to you, there's always such things as Metformin or fertility drugs like Clomid and the like, that you can fall back on.
Plus, the more you stress about it NOW (before even actively trying) I reckon the less likely your body will to want to get pregnant... so try n relax and see what happens naturally when you get there
All the best,
Marie (25, type 1 diabetic since 11 years, PCOS diagnosed in 2003 and again in 2006)
