I've been wondering if some of my problems with doctors stems from my age and them just not taking me seriously and I'd be curious to hear about other's experiences...
I'm 20 but i still consider myself a teen .
My dr.s treat me like i'm too young to understand what he's saying.
he'll use bigger words than necessary and talk too fast, to show off his superiority. When i start asking intelligent questions he kind-of stops and thinks and then he starts actually treating me like a valid patient. It's frustrating, to have to play mind games to get answers and help. A lot of times i feel like he doesn't really care. I go in for my exams and he has scripts written and given to me before he even examines me. He seems uninterested in much else besides moving along. I'm not sure if that's because he is that kind of person or if that's related to my age. hope this helps you a little
i have never felt that my doctors dont take me seriously but i think that is because they understand that i have researched into this and i think it also helps that diagnosed me knew that i had a strong history of family in the medical profession and they knew that my mum would explain most of it to me if i didnt understand and had probably already explained it to me, my new doctor i think has a better idea of me as im studyin a biomedical degree, and can tell im well researched in what i have,
hopefully your doctors will start treating you like the adults you are soon
Good luck lizzie xxx

My doctor takes me very seriously however I am from Canada and when i lived there i had a gyno who just told me i was fat and to lose weight... but no matter how hard i tried i wouldn't lose a pound and when i went back to him he would yell at me... I have been there but i would say find a new doctor who cares and LISTENS!
What I find appalling from my doctor, whom is my new doctor, is when she first told me I may have PCOS...and said, "You show all the symptoms except for obesity, though that will come later." The way she said it implied that I WILL get fat later in life, and when I went home to research PCOS, not every person becomes overweight! So at my next appt I asked her again and she denyed she ever told me that...you don't tell a teen that she will become fat, especially when I told her all about my image problems...

I'm looking for a different doctor right now. She is nice and she says that she has PCOS herself, but I feel like she doesn't listen to me at all and just assumes things instead of actually talking about them with me.
My doctor does take me seriously. She is soo nice and explains everything to me. She has PCOS too and answers all of my questions. I love good doctors!
My doctor does not take me seriously either. I think I have insulin resistance since I have so many symptoms such as chronic fatigue, thirst, hunger, stiff fingers, always peeing etc and then I have the hair loss from the androgens. But my doctor made it sound like my peeing is from drinking too much liquids, my stiff fingers was from dry skin, my fatigue is nothing, and my hair loss was from using Head and Shoulder. Sounds like doctors think that they're the only intelligent people in the world and that us patients can't possibly come up with a right diagnosis since we're not as bright as phycisians are. He thinks that I'm being over dramatic about my symptoms and only gave me a blood test to get me out of the room.
Does anyone know if your glucose levels can be normal with insulin resistance?
I'm always reading up on PCO, updating myself about how things work etc. So whenever I'm at an appointment, I ask all sorts of questions (DUH! Its confusing sometimes why my body just ups and starts acting weird). So far she's been very supportive.
Yes my dr. never takes me serious. I been going to her since I was 16 and she just now telling me I have PCOS. When she told me she never told me about it, hat it is, or what I have to do. She just put me on BC and sent me on my way. I tell her I have pain in my stomach and she just doesnt pay attention to anything I'm telling her. I'm searching for a new doctor as I type.
I went through 3 doctors before I found someone who would actually listen, and the surprise was, she is a nurse practitioner. I have military insurance still since I'm going to college, so it frustrates me. I did not have a period for 4 months and even though they did countless pregnancy tests, I still got told, well maybe you are... it was frustrating to say the least.
