I was just diagnosed with pcos about a month ago. I went to my gyno to discuss it.She said she was concerned about my depression, anxiety, forgetfullness, mind fog etc.I asked if that could be from the pcos because that's what I have read in many different places and she said no.It has nothing to do with your brain. Is this true ?She also acted like it shouldnt be that big of deal to lose weight even though I dieted and exercised for a month and lost only 2 pounds. She said I needed to exercise 60-90 minutes daily.I don't have they energy for that.Am I crazy ?Is she right.?
60-90 minutes every single day does seem like a lot, but maybe that's what it will take? I don't know, I think a lot of other cysters could help you more because I've never had to lose huge amounts of weight.
Depression is common in women with PCOS, and maybe that's related to your "mind fog?"
Did she talk to you about any medications? Cysters have a hard time losing weight and I think a lot of people find success with Metformin.

I need to exercise at least 90 minutes 5 times a week and eat a pretty low-carb diet to lose weight. I am currently working up to the 90 minutes (I'm at about 30.)
I do think brain fog and other issues can be related to PCOS, because hormones out of whack can cause depression and other problems.
She may be right about needing 60-90 minutes of exercise a day. Some women, especially those with PCOS need more to see results. You may need to work up to the 60-90 minutes but will find that as you gradually increase your activity level your energy level will increase as well. I think she is wrong about the depression, forgetfulness, mind-fog, etc. Hormones can play a big role in those things. It sounds like you might want to look for a doctor who knows a little more about PCOS or at least get a second opinion. Good luck!

Umm....I don't know what doctor in their right mind would say that hormones don't affect the brain. They absolutely do. However, don't take that to mean that I'm saying yes your depression and other issues are caused by your PCOS. I'm not a doctor myself, so I can't make that call. The point is just that it is possible. As for needing 60 to 90 minutes of exercise. That really depends on the person. I lost a lot of weight 6 years ago, but I only managed to get up the energy to exercise for that long just last year! If you can't handle that much exercise right now, do whatever you can handle and work your way up. Plus, exercise doesn't necessarily have to mean jogging or aerobics or anything extremely strenuous. Walking and swimming are both lighter impact exercises that are very good for you.
Hormones definitely affect your brain and moods. I have been depressed since I was about 14 years old...which is when my periods started becoming irregular. I definitely think that my memory and mind foggy-ness is due to the PCOS.

You might want to consider getting a new doctor. There is plenty of credible research which demonstrates for many women with PCOS - depression is a symptom. Generally speaking, your doctor is wrong if she says that depression is not related. The specific cause of 'your' depression may or may not be due to your pcos - but that's something that a good doctor should look into.

2 pounds of what? The scale can only measure pure weight. If your clothes are getting more loose, there's a good chance you lost more bodyfat than that, but other things (like water retention) are throwing the scale off.
You know what you did this past month, perhaps consider tweaking it...if you're eating 1700 calories per day, consider going to 1500 or 1600 (if that's healthy for you).
Regarding exercise, 60 minutes daily is not a 'lot'. It's really what we should all be doing - whether we're trying to lose weight or not.
Don't worry about trying to get there right a way...just add a minute each day until you can build up to it.
Also consider adding strength training (if you're physically able) - it's great for women, especially those with insulin resistance.

I am not Dr. ofcourse. But I have read that even bi-polar is kinda related in with PCOS. It is something alot of PCOSers have. I am not saying you have it by any means but if bi-polar is why couldn't Depression? I would go and get properly diagnosed. You could have ADD or something like that to. Who knows. It would be good to actually know and find out what can help.
BTW most Dr's recommend 30 min of exercise. My dr. said he prefers outside walking just because the fresh air helps to. BTW I don't get that much in most days because I am to tired to .
Good luck!

I just wanted to quickly add that I had terrible "brain fog" before I started Metformin. It was to the point where I would see mouths moving when people were talking to me, but I couldn't process what they were saying...
You know the old "Charlie Brown" cartoons where the teacher sounds like "waa waa, waa waa waa wah.." LOL.
Metformin cleared that up for me in less than a week...
