Scared my clock will stop, if it ever started! ?? !
I had my thyroid out last year. One of the best things that ever happened to me. The surgery wasn't that bad and my scar is healing beautifully. There were of course some complications but they really weren't that bad. If you have questions are want to talk you can e-mail me at c_demartini@yahoo.com.
Oh, and everytime I see someone who hasn't seen me since before the surgery they are all amazed at how healthy I look. Before the surgery I was sick all the time.
I had a left thyroidectomy in 1996 (only the left side removed, but I wish they would have taken it all).
Like martini, I found the surgery to be reasonable easy. It took about 2.5 hours (would have been less if they'd taken the whole thing), and the only complication I had was throwing up the jello they tried to feed me a few hours later (a common complication of the anesthesia). I stayed one night in the hospital, and the next day the doctor asked me if I wanted to go home or stay another night. I chose to go home, and did beautifully! Although I had stronger meds, the only thing I took once I left the hospital was Tylenol.
I went back to work one week later with my staples removed (I did look like Frankenstein with those staples!) and only a small piece of surgical tape over the incision site.
And my scar has healed beautifully! It is in the fold of my neck and can only been seen if someone is looking closely or if I point it out.
I know how nervous you're feeling, but it will be good to have that baby out of there. My surgery was also for a cold nodule (FNA was inconclusive), and after surgery we found out it was a benign adenoma. It will be better to know so you can rest easy. (((HUGS))) Let us know how it goes!
