Question Docs comment re Clomid

I saw my doctor today and as I discussed medications with her, I brought up Clomid.

She got wide-eyed and said "Clomid makes women crazy"

So I'm wondering, what does this mean exactly??

That is not even necessarily true. The side effects warn of mood swings I think, but I never had ANY side effects until my 3rd round....and that was when I threw up. And I also had hot flashes, but it was only for a few days! Personally I believe that my hormones were so whacked out that Clomid made ME feel BETTER the first 2 rounds....I had never felt more normal....Just my 2 cents.

*sigh* I'll never get over doctors making such bone-headed comments...

Yes, as the PP said, one of the POSSIBLE side effects of Clomid is mood swings. The only side effect I ever had, though, was hot flashes, which were only mild at first. They did get worse the more rounds I did and the higher the dosages went. But, you know, whatever--I got a baby out of it! Not all medicines affect all people in the same way. I was annoyed when a friend of mine said the exact same thing to me when she found out that I would be starting Clomid (she'd had bad mood swings when she took it). But at least she's not a medical professional!

I would be apprehensive of any doctor who made such a statement, to the point of it being a "deal breaker" for me personally. There are many web sites with great information of the side effects of Clomid, and the personal experience of all the fantastic women on this board is priceless resource as well. Do your homework and please don't let a ridiculous statement from a misinformed physician stand in your way.

Yeah, I might think about finding a new doctor if I was you. I had one who wouldn't give me birth control when I was NINETEEN because he said I was too young. I needed it to regulate my periods, I wasn't even with anyone at that time. So yeah, I found a new doctor. Some doctors are just idiots.

What a weird comment from a doctor! Yes, Clomid can bring on mood issues, and I have a friend who took it and was a total @#$ the whole time, but that's different from saying it makes you crazy!

I took clomid 4 cycles in a row and it really didn't affect me too much, emotionally. I had a few moments of @#$iness, but who doesn't I had more of the hot flashes than anything else.

I agree with the other girls--I'd be wary of a doctor who says something like that to you.

My personal experience with Clomid was awful. It made me angry, moody, b###hy, you name it! It had hot flashes and night sweats too. After 4 rounds DH and I decided no more Clomid.

We're on a break from fertility meds, trying to give the Met some time to work. If Met doesn't work, we're going to look into trying Femara and/or injectables.

This is just my experience, like many PP said it works great for some people, just not everyone

It works differently in everyone. My best friend nearly gagged when I told her that I would be starting clomid. She said "Don't do it". She had an awful time on it. I on the other hand have had a fairly good run on it. The only thing that I've had is the hot flashes but I kind of like them considering I'm usually always cold! And it's really helped my self esteem this month to know that DH and my efforts at BD'ing actually paid off because there was an egg there this month. I finally feel like I'm actually ttc!

I say just try it and see how you go. If it doesn't work for you then don't do more than the first round.

Suz

I did go crazy on Clomid, but I am totally amazed that your doctor said that! In fact, I would seek a new doctor b/c of it. If you are having trouble conceiving your doctor should be supportive and giving you treatment options, not telling you that a very common drug that helps woman concieve will "make you crazy".

Reading what your Doc said make me chuckle.
I'm on another website alot and those women complain all the time about what B!tches they are on Clomid.
I'm only had 1 day of moodiness in my 2 cycles with Clomid.
