Default Doctor decided against cytotec.

I went in today to talk to my doctor and start on cytotec. She analyzed my ultrasound images and decided that she thought my baby was too big to use oral cytotec. She said wait, d&c, or vaginal cytotec while being admitted into the hospital.

I chose to wait, which seems like the least awful option.

So now I've been carrying a dead baby for two weeks.

She gave me lexapro, ativan, and darvocet. I have another appointment a week from Thursday. If I haven't delivered my baby by then she wants to talk again about admitting me and giving me vaginal cytotec.

I'm praying I can pass the baby on my own. Does anyone know of herbal medications that aren't dangerous that may help?

I am so sorry for your loss. When I lost my baby in December my doctor wouldn't give me cytotec and I had to wait 12 weeks to fully miscarry. It was long and painful. I hope your pain is over soon.

I just had a missed miscarriage as well. I looked into herbs and talked to my acupuncturist about them. I decided not use them, however, as they said that it works 50% of the time and that it could cause severe cramping and may even end up needing a D&C anyway.

I decided to have a D&C after waiting to actually miscarry for 2 weeks. The babies were measuring 8w5d and 8w4d when we discovered that they had stopped growing.

Take care with your decision - so many of us know just how difficult it is.

I am sorry for your loss. How far along were you when the baby passed? My baby was measuring 8 weeks 5 days at the 12 week mark (although I believe I lost her at 10 weeks, becuase she was alive and kicking measuring 9 weeks 3 days the week before). They didn't want me to use vaginal cytotec at home-- said the baby was too far along--but I insisted and they gave it to me. I really didn't want a D&C. Can't you just insist, if that is what you really want maybe they will give it to you. A word of warning though, I took two months to stop bleeding after using it at that stage.

If they give you the option of a D&C, I would take it. I made the worst decision of my life when I decided to take the Cytotec. It's a very, very intense drug.

Sorry for your loss.

I would probably go for a d&c if they offered that (instead of the cytotec).

I know that many Dr's like for it to happen 'naturally' but that does not always happen. I have had a total of 5 losses that I know of, 3 'natural' losses and 2 losses that required d&c's and I personally (with everything that I have gone through) would rather have the d&c's. I was never offered cytotec, and from what I have read just on this board about it, am happy that I wasn't.

I personally had a bad experience with cyclotec. I was only 6-7 weeks along when I miscarried and they gave me the cycltec at when I would have been 9 weeks or so and 2 months of bleeding later they discovered that I hadn't expelled it. All along I was wondering why my hcg was falling so slow. I ended up having to have 2 shots of methotrexate to have it be over with. God forbid I have another miscarriage I will demand a D&C. I hope you find the answer you are lookin for.

I wish you didn't have to make any decisions like this. (((Hugs))) I don't have personal experience with a loss that isn't leaving the body on its own, but I've learned over the past four years that almost everyone has felt relief after a d&c when things were not happening naturally. I, personally, would probably be the person to wait things out, but that isn't always the healthiest option and doesn't always mean that the uterus will totally empty properly. Best wishes with your decision.

Devon--I am so sorry that you are even having to make a decision like this...with all of my losses except my last, happened naturally. I had to be induced with my son because I was 21w1d with him and there was no other way for him to come out. I took cytotec orally and vaginally and it was very intense. It put me into labor and it was painful...I lasted a little over 7 hours before I had to get an epidural. I will keep you in my prayers while you make this decision and I hope you make the right decision for you.

Hugz,

Adrianne

Cytotec has a huge warning on it not to use past a certain point because it can cause uterine rupture, which would not be good. I have heard that homeopathic versions of the herbs, like black cohosh, are gentler than the regular herbs. (((hugs))) to you. I just had a D & C at the end of April, so I know how you feel.
