first off, Jen, you moved to Raleigh from Warwick? Why? I know we talked before about you being in Warwick (i had lots of friends there you didnt know).
Second, where in Raleigh are you? I can recommend you a doctor who was actually recommended to me from an old school SCer. She told me about my kid's pediatric place which I LOVE! And she was a great help...
let me know WHERE in Raleigh you are and maybe they aren't too far for ya.
ETA - check out the link in my siggie for SC-Raleigh Meet-up!

Hi! How are you? My husband and I decided to sell our home and move somewhere with less snow and lower prices We'd be thinking about it for a while and are so happy with our decision. I live in North Raleigh - I would so appreciate your recommendation. I can't stand the thought of going to a General Practice and starting from scratch.
OMG! We HAVE to get together (if you dont mind kids since I have 2). I am in North Raleigh too.... basically Wake Forest. Over in Wakefield Plantation. anyway..... http://www.midcarolinaobgyn.com/index.htm That is where I was told to go. It's not close though. The person who told me lived/lives in Cary....

Wow really? We are actually looking at townhouses in Wakefield Plantation, we looked at a model home last weekend. Small world. I'm going to check out that website you sent me, Cary isn't far at all, I'd be willing to drive if it meant a good doctor. I also found a great PCOS specialist from the Duke University School of Medicine that I'm hoping to see soon. We should definitely get together! My email is nylittlejen@yahoo.com Talk to you soon!
i Have teh best real estate agent if you need one. She is amazing and goes teh extra mile for ya.
Anyway, yeah, I'd love ot get together..... you shodul come to teh SC meet-up her ein Raleigh
I actually am a Chapter Advisor for AKPsi at Duke University. Never been in their hospital yet. Does your specialist have a webpage? I might liek to get in touch with them regarding awareness issues.
I am bad at sending e-mails but I get back to PMs pretty decently.. so PM me!

I actually go to mid carolina ob/gyn but have never discussed my PCOS with them...I did fertility treatments with my old ob/gyn (he was great) but he had to quit his practice (health issues) during the middle of my pregnancy and I switched to MidCarolina just based on people I knew who went there and loved it there. Not taking PCOS into account, they are great, but a VERY busy practice. I like most of the doctors, some better than others, but that's the case everywhere, isn't it?
I think with my yearly appt this summer I am going to make an appt long enough to discuss my PCOS issues with them because as I get older I am concerned about health risks that can occur later in life. (I'm 36, so not "over the hump" yet!) I just started with a general primary doc last year who was so-so on her PCOS discussions. However, I didn't like the fact that she basically said "based on what you're telling me, you have PCOS" and didn't do any testing of hormones, etc.. or even offer any advice or plan of actions on what to do...BCPs was her solution. Soooo, needless to say, I would love to find a general practictioner in the Raleigh area who would pay attention to the PCOS issue because it is a health threat! Any suggestions on a good general practioner in the area...I tend to prefer women, but I would see a man if he was recommended!
Where is the gathering March 3rd??? I'd be interested in attenting.
When I lived in Raleigh, I saw Dr. Anne Brown and her nurse practitioner, Kathy Periera. Dr. Brown specializes in PCOS, and Kathy is great. They both sit down, talk everything through with you, listen to your concerns. Lots of testing to rule out other things, and I loved going to them. They're with Duke, and you need a diagnosis of PCOS and a referral (at least I did).

Thanks, everyone, for your great recommendation of Dr. Ann Brown. Her and her nurse practitioner were wonderful and really took the time to understand what was going on with my body. As I am not TTC, they took me off the Metformin that was making me so sick 90% of the time. I feel like a million bucks compared to how I was feeling. Also, Duke has PCOS studies, how your life is affected and what lifestyle changes are necessary, I am receiving paperwork so I can participate. Thanks again.
