Doctor Says PCO is Natures way of saying not meant to be a mother.
Hi,
Background Information is basically got diagnosed with PCO when I was 17, I have been used for a Guinea Pig for a few years and then decided to not go back to my consultants till I was trying for a baby as they were not offering me any medication just taking random tests every 6 months for years.
Anyway met my Lovely husband 4 years ago and after we got engaged I went back the hospital to a different consultant and he told me Polycystic Ovaries were Natures way of telling me Im not meant to be a mother he was horrible and I ended up walking out crying my eyes out, My mum phoned the Hospital when I got in and put in a complaint as I was so distraught.
Avoided going back the hospital because I didnt want my hopes and dreams crushed again.
I got married In June and decided to go back saw a lovely man 9 weeks ago was very encouraging although he did say I need to lose 3 stone before he will treat me.
I have since lost 9 and half pound and was wondering if you guys could help with some tips to improve my chances of weight loss and Conceiving.
Currently I have changed my bread to Soya and Linseed, Im drinking Green Tea, all Low Carb foods and Im taking Pregnacare.
Clare - I'm so sorry that you had to deal with such an insensitive Dr!! Who says that type of crap anyways!
I'm new to PCOS and don't have any advice, I just wanted to wish you luck and I hope everything works out for you!

Clare, I can't believe that doctor was that insensitive! It's so hurtful, what he said. I can't even imagine the emotions that welled up inside you as you left. I'm sorry you had to go through that challenge. As for weight loss, I don't know what weight you are at right now, but overweight women with PCOS get pregnant ALL the time. As for losing some of the weight, step up your workout routine. Cardio every other day, light weights on the off days. Keep yourself active and eat less calories. Also, the biggest trick is to watch your sugar intake.

9 1/2 pounds is great for 9 weeks. I know it may not seem like a lot.
How many pounds is in a stone?
And what a jerk. That doctor should not be one, imo. That's such a horrible thing to say.
I agree with the others, exercising and watching your caloric intake is really good. Watching sugar, and refined carbs is a big one too. I try to stay away from anything too starchy, or fatty.
What is soya?

I read that Green Tea is not good. I read tonight in the book "What to Expect BEFORE You're Expecting. However peppermint tea that is decaffeinated is good for you it says.
I would just drink water, milk, and orange juice or cranberry.

I will tell you, the best results I ever have had for weight loss have come from using the Weight Watchers plan. And it is so very healthy, and the easiest plan for me to stick with, that it's still good during TTC! To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. I'm so very sorry that doctor said that to you. It was extremely insensitive for him to say that, but even moreso, COMPLETELY UNTRUE. Do not listen to him!
Are people with cancer not "meant" to live? Are people who break a leg or an arm not "meant" to have those appendages? Are people who have bad eyesight not "meant" to see? How about babies born with heart defects? Are they not "meant" to live? See! He was dead wrong! You have a physical condition that should be treated like any other physical condition---- and I mean, treated!
I'm glad you found another doctor. The GI Diet worked for me to help me shed the weight. It sounds like you are doing pretty well so far! Just keep going and drink lots of water!

What a jerk! To quote Dorothy from The Golden Girls, "I don't know where you doctors lose your humanity, but you lose it. You know, if all of you at the beginning of your careers could get very sick and very scared for a while, you'd probably learn more from that than from anything else. You better start listening to your patients. They need to be heard. They need caring. They need compassion. They need attending to. You know, someday, you're going to be on the other side of the table, and as angry as I am and as ANGRY as I always will be, I still wish you a better doctor than you were to me. "
Can you tell that's one of my favorite shows? hehe

Meg, I was going to say something similar. Whether people call it "God" or "nature", when they tell people what's meant to be or not, they're making themselves into God - who are THEY to decide for someone else that they know what their life's path was meant to be?! How utterly arrogant and foolish. I hope it's okay to mention here that I am a proud mama of 2 beautiful, healthy children, with a third on the way, and it's ALL thanks to medical intervention! It took us a while to figure out what treatments worked for us, but eventually we did.
Good luck on weight loss and with treatments - I hope you find something that works well for you - most do, eventually.
And to the PP - kudos on the Golden Girl's quote. Love that show! To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
Meg, and Anonykat, I was going to say the SAME thing, lol.

I lost alot of weight on the South Beach diet. The first 2 weeks I lost 7lbs .. it is designed to keep your glucose levels stable .. I would cut out anything white (bread, rice, pasta, potatoes) and sugar. Including juice (which is pure sugar and of no nutritional value except for the occasional vitamin that was probably added), soda, etc. Lots of veggies are just sugar too, like carrots, beets, sweet potatoes, corn, & all fruit. No alcohol for 2 weeks. It isn't easy at first, but once the weight starts falling off, it kind of gives you a high. After 2 weeks you can start to add in whole grains and some fruits, etc. I lost a total of 16 lbs, starting at 138lbs , to 122lbs. I am 5'6'' so for me that was alot. The diet is a healthy diet which was designed by a cardiologist.. meaning no fatty meats, whole fat cheeses, fried stuff etc. The book is actually a very good read and you learn alot about how your body works.
Examples of my diet..
eggs, lowfat string cheese, almonds, lean meats, salads, veggies, avocado..

I am doing it step by step because for some people you loss to much to fast and you can rebound which isn't good either cause you can end up heavier... I also like alot of the foods I eat but changed them to whole grain or something that is better for you... I love my fruits and veggies they help me cut out candy and pop and sugar in general when it comes to white sugars... Just cutting out sugar should help alot as well... I also work out almost everyday to core rythyms it a collection of DVDs that is dance aerobics and I love it! You don't even feel that you are working out and you sweat like a dog .. and if you love dancing its great... I have been doing it for almost 3 weeks now and I haven't weighted myself but my clothes don't fit like they did 3 weeks ago... The reason I don't weight my self though is cause you don't see results there as fast as just feeling it at least not for me...
Just a thought, hope any of the info that the other posters have given helps to best of luck and keep us all posted...

Just a side note... careful with the soya bread and too much soy. It can actually interfere with your cycle if you eat a lot of soy all the time.
Also, there are a LOT of women on here who are more than three stone (42 pounds) overweight who still manage to conceive... So my suggestion would be to keep trying to get healthy (since it is good for you and your baby), but to tell your doctor to jump off a cliff and find another one if he refuses treatment just because of that.
