Dee2002

It’s so unfortunate that so many doctors don’t know anything about PCOS, I have had my share of experiences with doctors that have told me that there was nothing I could do to help my symptoms. It took me some time but I was able to find a doctor who actually knew a lot about PCOS. I suggest that you find another doctor if that is possible, I would start by calling doctors offices and asking them what their experiences with PCOS is. That is how I found my doctor. I would not even waste the co-pay to go see a doctor who had no knowledge of PCOS and if they couldn’t tell me that over the phone I wouldn’t waste my time with them either. I have been taking 1500mg of metformin for the past 5 months and I have lost about 15lb so far and I have had AF for the past 5 months, which has never happen before, ever.

Good luck to you and I hope you can find a doctor that will give you the assistance you are looking for!!!!!!!

I would change doctors. Were you seeing an endocrinologist or just a GP? Met does help weight loss and can jumpstart a healthier lifestyle.

Girl, doctors are expendable. I've "fired" more doctors than I'd care to admit. Don't give up until you find one that will help you.

Hey hun! U do need to find u a new doc. There is hope and things u can go on. and Metformin IS one of them. I started it and lost 7.6 lbs. with just a little cut back on carbs. Its does help.If u cant find a new doc atm then maybe get some good valuable info off the net about pcos and met and take it to ur doc. Then if she still doesnt do it then I would really try to find a new one. Dont lose hope on what ur doc said. To be honest, she doesnt know much at all about pcos!! Take care and hope htis helps <3

Well, dear, stop crying and start taking control of your own life. If you have insurance and you don't need referrals, just look for an endocrinologist that's covered by your policy. They'll take it from there. However, if you don't like that one, then get another one. They work for you.

Good luck and keep us updated.

What are your symptoms? What do you want to change?

I don't like your Dr's answer...that isn't the right one at all.

You might want to look at some of the natural remedy boards here. Herbs and lowcarb diets might alleviate some of your symptoms until you receive help from a doctor.

Met will help, should help you with the weight loss.

The hairiness may decrease with the weight loss. Most women see a decrease in symptoms as the lose weight. When you go to a new Dr see where your testosterone level is. There are several herbs that you can take to help.

If you feel bloated try changing your diet. More water and fiber.

Aww hun I'm sorry that this doctor treated you this way.
I've been told pretty much the same by almost every GP in my local surgery. All except one who I love to bits cos she likes to help rather than judge

I'm in the UK too so I know how crap the NHS are these days, but I'm in London, had PCOS for years too and you know, I have only just found my gynaechologist who understands and supports me as much as he can, I couldn't hack metformin first time, GP said nothing they can do, so it all got left alone, told Gyn about this monday he immediately switched me to Metformin Slow Release and asked why the hell they never put me on the pill and put me on it then too.

I've gotta wait now for the prescriptions to come through so I'll have to let ya'll know how it goes, but honestly, I'm just trying to show that finding a doctor who understands and supports you is the key to beating pcos as it's all about teamwork! xxxxxxxxx Good luck! xxxxxxxxx

the other girls are right hon, you need to "fire" your current doctor, as he/she does not know what they are talking about at all! the other girls have also given you some good quick fix advice to tide you over until you can find another doctor to help you...for sure go and find yourself and endocrinologist, or an ob/gyn for starters...every cyster is different and uses different remedies to deal with this self esteem hindering condition. i'm a natural cyster, i opt for teas, natural herbs, healthy eating (with a fast food treat every so often) and a little exersize..i used to be close to 300lbs but like others have mentioned, following a lower carb diet seemed to be the way to go for me...you don't even have to sign up for any program if you don't want to, but it might help to begin with as they keep you on track for the first little bit (its easy to fall off when we are feeling blue, and food can be a comfort) there are also plenty of sites online where they offer TONS of FREE low carb advice and recipies. but, it is best to get yourself a new doctor and watch what you eat here and there until you talk to your new doctor and figure out a plan that is right for you (darn, i sound like an insurance commercial..lol) you have all of us for support until then, and you have more strength inside yourself then you know..we all do.
