Default Doctor Suspects PCOS

Hi,

My doctor is suspecting that I have PCOS. Seeing any doctor besides her is not an option as I am having to see a doctor at a certain clinic that does stuff based on sliding scale fees. Anyways here is some background info.

I got my first menstural period when I was around 12. My inital period was extremly heavy and made me weak and I missed school for a couple of days because of it. After the first day the bleeding slowed down but I was weak and needing rest for a couple of days. Even back then my periods were irregular. My periods came about every three months if I was lucky to have them that regular.

I am currently 24 and have a 3 year old daughter. The only time my periods were ever regular was a couple of months after my daughter was born I was regular. After I had my daughter I was 160 lbs and am 5ft, so was heavy then. I watched what I ate and managed to get my weight down to 135.

Then last year around the end of October I started to have bad lower abdominal pain. Nothing I could do at that moment but see the ER because at the point I had not been able to set up getting seen anywhere we could afford. The ER didn't tell me much of anything at the time. Though I had ballooned up and looked pregnant for some reason. A couple of weeks after that I had really bad abdominal pain for like two days and then my period started. I quickly lost that big ballooned bloating look and feeling. However after that I started gaining weight. No changes in diet or anything. The weight went back up quickly. Right now I am back to 158 lbs.

Anyways towards the beginning of last month I was back to having severe pain. Though this time it was worse then before. I went to the ER and they said I had PID, though I am negative for any STDs etc, so was on 14 days antibiotics for it. In addition to the antibiotic pills and shot they gave me in the ER. About 5 days after that visit I was in even more pain then before and having pain on my right side. So I went back to the ER. They did a CT and found I have a cyst. They gave me another antibitoic shot and another 14 day antibiotic prescription.

About a week after that I went to my doctor I had managed to get. I told her about the PID stuff, the cyst they said I had, etc etc. I forgot to mention earlier that currently my last period was nine months ago. I am not pregnant and there is no way I can be. At that time we discussed getting my hormones tested for PCOS and getting my thyroid check. The lab work at the office also does things on sliding scale but can only do certain lab work at that rate. So the doctor just ordered a TSH, FSH and LH blood work. I got the results and from what I am reading it is indicative of being PCOS. Tomorrow I set up another appointment with my doctor to go over the results etc. Anyways my thryoid levels are normal at 1.7. However I do have the High-Low thing on the LH and FSH. My LH is 19.2 and my FSH is 5.8

Anyways onto the symptoms of PCOS I have, as you know I do have at least a cyst not sure of exact details there. I have weight gain and most of it is in my belly area. Family and friends tell me I look pregnant because of it. I do have acne and oily skin. No excessive hair growth anywhere but I have been keeping my scalp hair short. Reason behind that is excessive hair lost. Anytime I would take a bath or shower and wash my hair I would loose handfuls. Brush my hair and it would be loaded with hair as well. I ended up having to brush my hair, before my shower, washing my hair and when the conditioner was in my hair gently combing through it with a large comb to remove the loose hair, otherwise it would all end up in the shower and was a pain to keep clean. I am fatigued and have read that can be a symptom as well. I have depression and mood swings, which I am not sure are related or not. Anyways I am hoping soon to get all this figured out. My doctor is awesome I can tell that already. Shes one of the rare ones that listen to you :-D Even when you have a history of depression so that makes me happy.
