I know ppl have posted about docs in these areas but a lot were from a while ago and it seemed like a lot of ppl were still looking.
I need doc that will help if you are not ttc.
I live in Northern Virginia (Reston). I am willing to travel some distance because I also have Lyme and know the aggravation of having to find a doc that will help you. I recently discovered I have cysts and free fluid on a CT scan after seeing my Lyme doc for terrible lower abdominal pains. I have had sypmtoms for years but no one would ever listen to me b4. I am very concerened because my mother also developed cysts at this time in her life ( I am 27) and she later developed ovarian cancer.
Please if anyone can recommend someone that they have found and recieved good care from, please let me know. I need to go as soon as possible. I am also looking into Dr. Hart in Ashburn becuase he is also a Lyme doc, has anyone seen him? He doesn't take insurance but I have to deal with that with the Lyme also anyway.
Dr. Wilder with the Women's Care Group (http://www.thewomenscaregroup.com/) was who diagnosed me. Totally not resistant to PCOS as a diagnosis. I don't go there anymore (insurance change), but she was very kind. Sent me for a blood workup, ultrasounds, and referrals w/o any fussing or second guessing.
However, Carmen Pastor, the endo she referred me to was SO bad I considered reporting her to the Medical Board. Avoid her at all costs---"eat a salad for every meal" was her only advice, she told me to my face at the 1st appt that I was lying to her about my eating habits (ha!), and she refused to call me back with the cushing's test lab results for three weeks after they'd come in, made LabCorp call ME to interpret her orders because she couldn't make herself understood to them.....nightmare, nightmare.
But Dr. Wilder's group seemed very nice. I'm with Kaiser P. now, and really like the lady I'm seeing over there. She's totally on the ball.

I loved Paulette Brown at Shady Grove Fertility Center. She was at their Rockville branch when I was working with them, but I think she's in Annandale now. I also worked with Marcie Krop Cook in Reston and would recommend her as well.
I have been to Kaiser Perm, Shady Grove, Rappahannock Womens Center, About Women OBGYN and would NOT recommend them.
Just a note, Kaiser Perm. is not a doctor/healthcare center, it's an insurance company (HMO) with multiple locations all over NoVA. It's unlikely that bad care from a provider at one center would imply anything about the rest of the docs across the region. My KP OB/GYN has been very responsive and kind, for example, and she was recommended to me by someone else who loves her. Or did you have a problem with their policies? More info, please.

my ob/gyn is Dr. Sherri Franklin with Virginia Womens Health Associates. They have an office at Reston Hospital and another near Tysons Corner. I thought she was pretty good my only complaint was that she didnt go into great depth about PCOS.

Thanks guys, I live in Reston. The problem I have been having is that most pple wont' see me becuase I am not trying to conceive, which is really not fair. I just need a gyno I guess that is going to be good in treating for PCOS but more importantly my risk for cancer. I even called the docs at Reston ovarian cancer center and would not see me or refer me, I mean I am in terrible pain and have cysts and my mother had cancer. I dont' understand these ppl. Sorry I freaked out for a sec, lol!
Try to give Dr. Krop-Cook a call. She is at 1800 Town Centery Parkway. I used her before I was trying to get pregnant for some tubal and PCOS issues. I ended up switching to Shady Grove WHEN after a couple failed IVF's with her, but if it's "just" PCOS management/cancer screening you're after I would definately give her a try. She's SO sweet. I sent her a holiday card a couple years ago and it had a picture of my daughter. She tracked me down, cross county, and called me herself to thank me, see how we were doing, find out how we finally got pregnant, etc. She's really cool lady.

Dr. Filla at Fair Oaks. My boss told me how much his wife loved her, so I gave it a whirl. I've seen her twice, and she's been very kind. Quick and competent, but you don't feel like she's rushing you. Both times, she's told me to meet her in her office after getting dressed, and we talk for another few minutes about whatever concerns I might have. I think it's going to work out just fine.

All my years with my employer I had KP...but for some reason last year during open enrollment I switched to Optimum Choice....why the hell I did that, I don't know! I'm counting down the days to open enrollment so I can get back to KP by the first of the new year.
I saw and endo named Dr. Bryant in DC when I was with KP. He was thorough and he was the one who diagnosed me. I was in damn denial about my weight and he told me I was morbidly or excessiveley obese and it turned me off. It was nothing against him, but I will admit I did not do anything that I told me to do and I was upset with him for telling me truth.
So once I get back with KP, I'll try to take this PCOS head on. I have a Dr's appt tomorrow with a PCP to get a referral to one of their endos but for some reason I have no confidence inthe doc's my current ins has to offer.

Hello, I have a similar situation as Fallingleaves. I live in Alexandria, VA and am looking for a competent MD that is knowledgeable and experienced with PCOS. The catch is that I am not currently TTC, although would like to be monitored, etc. Because I am not IR and immediately not TCC, my current OBGYN has not been very informative and literally laughs at my concerns.
Does anyone know of a practice or MD that is welcoming to those that are in a similar situation?
I ended up seeing Dr. Krop Cook in Reston. See was very nice, but did not really do anything or test me for pcos, just said she thought I should see a gastro and take BCP. So I dont' know what to do now, she said she was totally unconcered with my cysts even though I am in terrible pain ever since what I think was a rupture because I had fluid in the pouch of douglas, and starting from the time I ovulate until my period I have terrible pinching and cramps and pulling pains that are so bad I can't walk or leave the house. Even when she did the gyn exam she palpated my ovary and I screamed and just about jumped off the table. I also have really bad greasiness and acne that started at the same time as the pains. I also have pelvic floor tension b4 all of this my whole life, that has become terribly sever since all of this, including things like night sweats etc since I started puberty. I am one giant hormonal symptom. I really don't know what to do, I have had it with seeing Drs.
