Hi All~I just have a question about my doctors appt. I have PCOS with most of the symptoms...no periods on my own being the main one. I finally got around to findig a RE and went to my first appt. with a nurse practitioner a couple weeks ago. There, we basically did a personal history, weight, etc. She informed me that for my next appt., it was mandatory that my husband be there and that we would meet with the doctor to decide which path we're going to take to conceive. Well...my husbad and I both had to take vacation time from work this afternoon for the appt. We met the doctor...but didn't learn anything different then I found out at the first appt.! What's the point? He told me the exact same things the nurse told me a couple weeks ago. And...it really was not necessary for my husbad to be at this meeting. I know we're in this together and all, but it really was not needed for him to use up vacation hours for this appt.! He did end up getting a semen analysis done, but they said he could do that anytime he wanted. The doctor also didn't have my lab results in my file from my first appt. He said they must not be back yet. When we met briefly with a nurse before leavig, I expressed my feelings and she went and got my results from a file. Sorry for venting...I was just really annoyed! Is this normal to have an appt. like this? Just to basically meet the doc?? Glad my insurance pays good, but I wish we wouldn't have used up vacation days for this! Thanks for reading...and if there's something to this appt. that I'm missing, please let me know! God Bless!
YEah sometimes I wonder about these doctors and why they want to waste our time and money but sometimes they do. I don't understand either. But I am sorry you had to use vacation time.
i am sorry to hear you had a bad visit but sometimes I wonder about drs. I know that sometimes I have left and just shake my head. I now have a dr that I like and answers my questions.

I learned the hard way to always call the day before any appointment to double check they got all the test results back. Too many times I have had to reschedule AND pay for another appt because of their "over sight".
Know what tests are being done, then you do the follow through to get the most out of your appts!!

I was given a referral by my primary care doctor to see a specialist about PCOS. I had to drive over a hour to get to the appointment. When I met with the doctor, she told me that she didn't know anything about PCOS and that I needed to schedule an appointment to see a specialist.
I told her that is what I did, and her office scheduled my appointment with her. When I started complaining how the appointment was a waste of my time and money, she quickly gave me lab slips to have lab work done. Lab test that I had already had done, but she wanted to try and justify the visit. I was angry. I put her lab slips in the trash, went home and filed a complaint with the office that referred me. That doctor's visit was a waste of time and money, so I understand how you feel.
