Nope hes right they are the same thing.

When you have insulin resistance your pancreas over produces insulin and over months/years it eventually runs out, then you are left with diabetes basically. So thats why they say insulin resistance and prediabetes are one and the same, as eventually it becomes diabetes.

Also your lifestyle choices and eating habits determine how soon, you may get diabetes.

Some doctors will label you as pre-diabetes if you are IR because it is a condition that can eventually lead to Type II Diabetes if left untreated.

Impaired fasting glucose and impaired glucose tolerance levels are more frequently used as symptoms of pre-diabetes though.

Agree Tina_d. Some people (even doctors) tend to use the terms IR and pre-diabetes interchangeably because IR can be a precursor for diabetes, but generally research literature does not agree that IR is the same thing as pre-diabetes. With pre-diabetes & diabetes, your pancreas cannot produce enough insulin to keep your glucose at normal levels. With IR, your pancreas produces enough insulin to entice the smooth muscles to use the glucose, but because you are IR, it takes more insulin than normal. In the end your body has excess insulin that causes various problems such as central obesity, excess androgens, acanthosis nigricans, hypoglycemia, etc.
