I was reading that isoflavones can depress the thyroid. I don't take any soy at all right now, but if I did, I'd do it only for 5 days or a week in the first half of my cycle.

I'm confused. Would the soy make a depressed thyroid worse?

I dont know, but I dont think its proven that soy makes a thyroid worse because when I asked my doctor he said he d never heard of that. Either way I dont take much I guess, 40 mg 2 times a day but its only 40% isoflavones so thats like 50ishmg a day? Doesnt sound like too much to me.

How does it make your thyroid worse? Does it make it overactive or underactive?
And I don't take soy but I know people who do and they take it everyday if that helps at all...

I heard it can attribute to hypothyroidism but its more of an idea then a proven thing I think?

I read about this on
http://www.annieappleseedproject.org/soythyroid.html and apparently soy isoflavones alone dont aggrivate hypothyroid, soy isoflavones and a diet low in iodine can though. Iodine is in table salt among other things so I dont think it should be a problem for most people? I could be wrong though, Im just going by some articles I just read.
