Does any other country besides Korea have a weight/height requirement?
Is Korea the only country that has a weight/height requirement?
We're looking @ Korea & China (I really want to do China but DH wants to look @ Korea) but Korea has that requirement (we're both on diets but I don't want that to be the factor that will hurt our chances, KWIM)
Thanks!
Traci

I believe Thailand has a weight restriction but I have never heard of any country having a height restriction ?
In Thailand you also cannot work with the dead as a profession as its against their religious beliefs.
Is your hubbie wanting Korea becuz of the boy factor ?

To my knowledge, it's just Korea. I know China does not have the restriction.
Not all agencies for Korean adoption have this restriction. Agencies that go through Eastern or SWS do, and those that go through Holt or KSS do not.

Thanks! I didn't mean there was an actual height restriction, just weight restriction...kinda like a BMI.
He hasn't actually said whether it's the boy factor or not but I really know he wants a girl so that wouldn't make sense... I think he just wants to know all of our options out there. We wouldn't be starting anything until at least June for China or January for Korea anyway (I'll be 30 in June & we'll be married for 3 years in January-as I read it everywhere, you have to be married for at least 3 years to adopt from Korea as well or is that an agency by agency thing too?)
Thanks!

Actually, I know of another cyster who tried to adopt from Korea through Holt and was told that she could not because of her weight. I believe it is actually a restriction that Korea has placed, not the agencies. I think there is a way around it, doctor's letter or some such, but be prepared to have a hassle if you choose Korea.
The cyster I am speaking of was heartbroken when she was informed of the problem and gave up the adoption altogether. Thankfully, I believe she's pg now and will get her family afterall, but please if you're going to try Korea, go into it with your eyes open and prepared for a hassle if you're overweight.

Korea has certain weight restrictions. They are the only country that has them but some agencies have them as well.
China on the other had has an age requirement (30 for both parents) before you can adopt...
Good Luck!

I'm healthier than a lot of thin people I know. I don't smoke, drink, or do drugs, for one. I'm overweight, sure, but I really don't think my weight would have any real impact on my ability to parent a child.
I'm just getting annoyed with the adoption process and we've not even started yet. It's interminable waiting, unreasonable and irrational rules, and tons and tons of red tape.
I hope in the end it will be worth all this, because it's going to be hell getting there for us.

As for the weight thing, I agree with the last poster. My biggest problem with weight restrictions is the fact that all these children are growing up without loving parents just because of the restrictions placed on adoption. It's sad to think that the weight of a person would keep a child from finding a loving home.
As for whether it's worth it, I can tell you that it's worth it 1000X's over. I'd go through it all over again if it meant I could have another child like my sweet son.
