I was wondering if anyone here does tanning and if it makes you feel at least a little bit better about yourself? My legs etc. haven't seen the sun in forever and i am so white and i always feel like crap and i wonder if maybe if i had a tan i would feel a little bit better. I also have a hard time finding make-up/powder(that i can afford) in a shade close to my skin color. It is very hard especially when i have to put it on my neck a little bit too. Any suggestions? Does tanning make hair less noticeable?
Well, speaking from my perspective at age 44...a pale as a button mushroom 44, too...
My hair is miserablely thinning. I still have a weight problem. I do have some excess hair in places I'd rather not deal with it. Ya gotta love PCOS.
But.....
I have gorgeous skin. I have very very little sun damage, and barely am showing any lines around my eyes.
Why?
Well, part of it is genetics.
And a lot of it is because I stayed OUT of the sun when I was younger. Sure a tan is pretty. But what it does to you later isn't so pretty. Skin cancer isn't particularly pleasant, either.
If I were you, and I wanted a little treat to make myself feel better, I'd buy some gorgeous earrings or a sweater that complimented my lovely porcelain color. And skip the tan. You'll be glad you did when you're 44.

i didn't mean that i wanted to bake myself.....i meant tanning at a salon...like the spray on kind or bed. Just wondering........ I think if i had darker skin my eyebrows wouldn't look so weird either......cuz a lot of latino women have dark eyebrows but they also have dark skin so you don't notice it as much
Hi,
I'm a red head so I have fair skin. I don't tan, just freckle. I can honestly say I have a slim chance of getting skin cancer and wrinkles.
My fair skin used to bother me so bad. All my friends were so tan, and I was so self concious. But now I'm proud of my white skin. Look at Nicole Kidman she is gorgeous....
BUT:
I feel that a tan would make you feel better about yourself. I've never had spray tanning done, but my sister-in-law goes to the salon to get it done. She loves it. And she doesn't look orange. It actually looks natural. But the salon told her if she went on a regular basis then she would get that orangey look. I personally would do the spray before the tanning bed. Just for the fact of being at risk under the ultra-violet rays. Of course if you are real fair you will probally have to gradually work the spray in.
Being one who does not have a tan, but I would think your hair would be less noticable the darker your skin is. I understand about the makeup. I use Ivory or translucent.
How fair skin are you?
Do you have dark eyebrows?

I have black eyebrows and they are kind of corse instead of being fine. It is very frustrating. They got that we when i went thru puberty i think. My hair is a dark reddish brown. I don't have VERY fair skin but fair enough to envy people with the slightest hint of a tan. A few summers ago my husband and i wanted to get a tan for our wedding but i just basically ended up burning the sh*t out myself. It hasn't left any scarring really....just some freckles. It took me a while to get rid of the redness/burn line but it looks okay now. But anyway...i am overweight so i don't wear shorts(plus i hate my legs anyway) or a bathing suit(unless i have a shirt on over it) so i am very very VERY white on my body. My arms aren't too bad. I just feel like my face and body would look a little better if they were tanned and i wouldn't feel so self consious(sp?). I am only 21 years old but this PCOS stuff has been very depressing for over half of my life!
Tanning is very relaxing for me especially after a long days work!I dont tan in a bed all the time but if i need a calming thats where i go. Just be careful u dont fall alseep and burn!!

There is a misnomer that tanning beds are safe or at least safer than baking in the sun...NOT TRUE! They are actually more dangerous.
I too am porcelin white with dark brown hair/eyebrows and get compliments all the time on my skin! I have tanned in all sorts of ways and plesae believe me when I tell you UV is not the way to go!
If you really want that look maybe try the spray on tanner at a salon or even Neutrogena sunless tanning spray. I use that during the summers on my legs. It is very subtle and easy to use (and rather cheap to boot).
Hope I don't sound preachy it just scares me that so many people lay in these tanning bed to relax, "look better", have some personal time, whatever and they are so unhealthy!
I have very pastey pale skin which gets me down as it shows up every blotch, spot dark circles etc., which gets me down a bit.
I absolutely swear by Nivea's fake tan sprays. I use it on my face every couple of days to take away the pastey look. My body in the summer also. It does wonders!! Every few weeks I lay off it for a while so I don't get a build up of orange-ness but I highly recommend it if you don't want to get professional tanning sprays all the time. It just helps me feel that little bit better about myself or more confident to go make-up free (or a bit less anyway!)
I do visit a sunbed for 10 mins tops every so often if there's a special occasion I want to look good for. These machines are 10x the strength of the sun...very bad stuff. I can see how people are addicted to them though as they do make you look great...for a while!
