Unhappy Does anyone else have extreme nausea when taking BCPs?

Over the last couple of years I have tried numerous birth control pills. Every time I try I get really really sick. Even taking the low dose ones doesn't seem to make a difference. I just tried taking Diane-35 and only made it 3 days in before I couldn't keep anything down. Has anyone else had this problem? What else can be done for symptoms of PCOS? I don't get my period, have no sex drive, excess hair growth and have now started to get acne. From how my doctor was talking to me the only option I had was BCP =(

(I was diagnosed with PCOS 4 years ago through ultrasound and blood work)

welcome to sc yes, bcp makes me feel wayyyy sick, and it makes my weight go up/ and my bp too. But we're all different, so hopefully it will work out for you. There are cysters who have bcp and are fine on it

When I started BCP I also had problems with bad nausea. I found the only way to stop it was to eat something when taking the pills...and that helped a lot. I'd usually take them with a meal. If I took them by themselves it made me feel really sick.

BCP Is not the only option to treat PCOS. Metformin is also a very good treatment for ovulation and regular periods. Many woman who take Met that don't have pcos experience a very regular period who would normally have not.

Try discussing Metformin with your Doc. If the BCP's are causing you to be sick then you could try to the met. Just be warned that the met will cause diahrea until your body has adapted to the dosage.

The trick with the BCP's is taking it at a time of day that is right for you and taking it with food. Eat before you take them and that should aid in the nausea. Also, You could discuss with your doctor the option to take a medication to aid in the nausea.

I was on Dianette (Diane-35) for six years until a couple of months ago.

It gave me the worst nausea I've ever had in my life... along with pain in my upper abdomen... dry gagging... you name it I had it. It even made my hair fall out more than it was before. My hairline has receded about an inch =(

I tried taking it at different times, with food, in the middle of a meal, after a meal... nothing helped. And it was always worse after starting back post 7 day break.

The sad thing is I put up with all this for SIX YEARS because I was too vain to come off it... without it I have the worst acne.

Don't make my mistake =( Its just not worth it, and BCP is NOT the only option.
