Hi all, I have been battling H.S sonce I was 18. I have been on so many different medication, had around 9 surgerys and taken every antibiotic they could think to put me on. I am a stage 2 and get them in the groin area and under the breasts.

I was kind of shocked to see a thread dedicated to HS here on the PCOS forum. It was just unexpectd. I belong to an HS support group on yahoo and the people there are AMAZING with sharing their tips and ideas for helping with HS.

I truly am sorry to see anyone going through this, HS has been my nightmare for 10 years. It makes it hard to open up to people and be who you really are. Im glad to know that at least here at soulcysters I can really be me and not hide any part of that because there are people here who actually understand.

Default Me too!

I have had mine for 3yrs now. They are the size of a pea, like a hard lump under the skin but then eventually disappear. Occassionally they may boil up and need squishing (sorry TMI). They always seem to leave a small round purple scar as a nasty reminder, which is just so horrible. I am single but get worried about being intimate with someone new as four are on my inner thighs, with one small one in my breast fold and one on my lower tummy. It looks like I have a STI so I currently avoid dating altogether which is making me even more depressed!

Never had them diagnosed by a doctor. My GP just gave me Hibiscrub which is an antibacterial wash you use before having surgery but that has not made one jot of difference to them.

Hoping to start Slimming World in the new year so that should cut my sugar and carbs right down to nearly zero.. so maybe it will have a good effect on these little blighters too!

i was going to post a link to that yahoo group, but soulcysters isn't letting me for some reason. i agree, it's an awesome site. lots of useful info.

i have pretty bad HS, but it's calmed down lately. i low carb (i'm in atkins - induction at the moment) and i'm absolutely certain low carbohydrate/low glycemic (i prefer the former) helps.

a couple tips that have been really helpful for me (but kinda silly sounding): i use johnson & johnson cornstarch baby powder on my bikini line and thighs after i get out of the shower and dry off. it helps keep the area dry - moisture/sweat seems to aggravate HS. i think any cornstarch would help (but don't use anything with talc).

also, when you're lounging around the house in PJs or shorts/boxers, go without underwear... i find the elastic bands on underwear (the ones that rub against your bikini line) extremely irritating to that part of my skin. or hell, go without underwear whenever you can.

AngelCOH,

Lol! STI, it is funny you mention this, I was really worried about having warts or something the like down there, until I had my GP look at them (not very pleasent, but I was really concerned about it) and she said that it was hs, she gave me no cure, just "some people get them, there's nothing to be worried about, keep the area clean and dry..."

About intimacy issues, keep lights soft and dimmed (or switched off altogether) and there's no way they can tell.

Thanks Mariela. I might just go the whole way and blindfold them under the guise of wanting to be playful

I too was shocked to find this topic! Im new to the site and was dx about 11 years ago with pcos. I have had hs since I was 11 (31 now) I have tried everything you can imagine. Every antibiotic, cream, soap etc etc... Have been on tetracycline now for about two months and it's not doing squat. I never connected the problem with my pcos but it makes sense. I currently have over 60 of these things on my inner thighs and groin area. It is so depressing and painfull. One tip I can give (sounds wierd but it works!) wear men's underwear - the boxer brief kind- it keeps your thighs from touching and rubbing. My doc told me that if one is leeking (gross!) that it can be contagious when it rubs on your other leg when you walk.

Hi, I have never been diagnosed with this and in fact just by doing research tonight stumbled onto its name. For years now I get these what I call abscess in the skin between my pubic area and left thigh. get them about 1 to 2 times a year. I once had one so big it was like a breakfast bowel in size it hurt to even walk... It got that big in weeks. I had it lanced but was told by the ER doctor it is normal with diabetes. This was a few months after being diagnosed with diabetes but still in that phase that the only thing PCOS causes is infertility and all my hormone problems were because I was overweight.
Well I have been so embarrassed by them I haven't been back to the doctor for them. I started trying to stab them myself to relieve the pressure and pain. I do not recommend this, (I am also bipolar and often do not have a care on earth what happens to me) that's why I stab them. I have one now the size of a fist in that area. I tried to squeeze it very hard not knowing really what it was and think it may have burst on the inside. It's Gross I know, but I felt hot wet running down my thigh and there was nothing there, so it must have burst under the skin. So Please never try to squeeze them. I get them under my armpits all the time but they aren't so bad, if they don't go away they harden. I have several hard spots under my arms where they just crystallized I guess. I get them around the sides and under my breasts too. Those are so painful when I wear bras it brings tears to my eyes. I'm glad there is a place I can talk to women who are just as afflicted with this crap as me. I'm wondering, if I will never have kids or periods again anyway, why can't I just have a hysterectomy and be done with all these ailments. I've had the worst life and am looking forward to old years or the grave. I am only 29 I have had PCOS since I was 15, but started my periods on my 9th B-day so doctors told me it was coming. I am diabetic, type 2, I am bi-polar, IBS, NASH, reoccurent pancreatitis and now this HS stuff I guess. I am losing my hair, have to shave my face daily. Its just sickening. I'm sick of myself. I must have been some kind of mass murderer in a past life to have to go through all this.

ChrissyJo,
I totally relate to what you are going through. I know how painful and debilitating these things can be. In my last post I said I was taking tetracycline and it was not doing anything-well I have been sticking with it and I am finally seeing a difference!! Like a huge one! The first few days on it I had some upset tummy symptoms but after that no side effects at all. (I have IBS too so I was worried about it) I recommend you to ask your doc if long term antibiotic use can help you. Make sure (I'm speaking from experience) if you try lancing them yourself that you get a sterile lancing kit from the drugstore so you don't get a blood infection. (they are only like $3 at the drugstore) Try to put warm washcloth on them for the pain and when they do finally burst clean them really good and smother them with neosporin. If you have a fever go to the ER right away. As for everything else you are going through you poor thing I won't tell you it will get better because I have been and actually am in your shoes too and I know how you are feeling and I never want anyone to coddle me. I will say if you ever need someone to talk to I actually have two ears that are about the only thing that work right on my body! Shoot me an email - jmberninger@gmail.com and we can commiserate together.

I used to just get a cyst or two in my groin area, right along where the edge of my panties hit.
I also have one thing I'll call a cyst which I've never seen but I feel every month in the few weeks before my period (right where the edge of my panties can irritate it even more). It will start off feeling a little sore and over the course of a few more days it will swell into a larger feeling hard lump deep under the flesh and soon thereafter, will I suppose bring itself to some kind of head because it starts draining. The reason I know it drains is because there is always a dark gray/green pus stain(TMI, I know !) on my pantiliners in that exact spot. One time when I was showering, I decided to see it I could hurry the draining along, and decided to squeeze the dickens out of the thing no matter how much it hurt. What amazed and grossed me out was that under the running water, when I squeezed, I could feel air bubbles coming out and when I squeezed and released it, I could feel the air moving in and out like it was a hollow cavity....I don't know if this would be called H.S. but maybe something similar. I'm so used to this one giant butt zit, that I barely think about it anymore.... I'm hoping my Met and Spiro will help clear it up a bit.

Anyway, I just wanted to let you know you are not alone.

Thank you so mych Gracie123, you made me feel so warm and cozy. I'm not always down in a dump like this but when I am it's nice t know a complete strange can care enough to help.
I finally saw a doctor on this most recent bump and it had gotten so bad, it is now a Staff Infection. So I have pain killers and anti biotics. Doc was going to try to lance it, but she said there is so much scar tissue there from reoccuance tht the Bactrim would be better.

Deb34,

I hadsome info for you, e I did a lot of research and found different facts about down there zits and so on. I think what you may be having is Bartholins Gand Cysts.

I coppied this:

A Bartholin's gland cyst is a swollen fluid-filled lump that develops from a blockage of one of the Bartholin's glands, which are small glands located on each side of the opening to the vagina. Bartholin's gland cysts and abscesses are commonly found in women of reproductive age, developing in approximately 2% of all women.

here's a link to it

Hello Rhoda,
I'm 19 years old and had H.S for about 5 years. I just received a call from my doctor today telling me I might have PCOS. I can't help but to think these too things are interconnected. I also have cyst on my neck which my dermatologist tells me is not HS related.

Question

I get these places alot on my thighs. The first time I went to the Dr. for one he said it was a sebacious (spell) cyst. I lance them myself now. That is if they don't go away on their own. I think I must have HS though, b/c all of my symptoms are the same as everyone else. As if PCOS isn't enough!

Angry

I was in the hospital a couple days ago for my "never ending period" and the nurse saw one of my hs marks and asked me what that was. I told her its HS and she didn't know what it was then the doctor tells me it's cellulitis aka staph and says that usually drug users and unclean people get it.

I was: 1. embarrassed because here I am helpless in a hospital gown and being told I'm unclean, and 2. defensive because I KNOW it's HS and I KNOW I don't do drugs and I DO bathe daily!
I couldn't muster up the energy to defend myself though and besides that, why would a doctor listen to me? They never do.
