Question Does anyone else have severe pain with PCOS?

I am 28yo and TTC. I went off of BC August 2008 and have since not had a period on my own. I have had 2 induced by Provera. I was on BC for 10 years and never had issues with pain or irregularity. I am extremely frustrated my husband and I have not been able to conceive, but what is even more distressing to me right now is my monthly pelvic pain. It occurs right around the time I am suppose to have my period and lasts up to a week. It feels like my ovaries are on fire. Burning, sharp pain and I get very bloated and cranky. I was told women with PCOS don't experience pain like this so my MD was thinking it could be endometriosis and sent me for an ultrasound. The ultrasound showed "peripheral distributed small follicular cysts" in both ovaries consistent with PCOS, no large cysts or masses. My lab work so far (TSH, Prolactin, lipid panel, glucose fasting, hepatic function, LH, & FSH) has been within normal limits. Because of my age, my doctor won't refer me to a RE until we have been trying for a full year. It seems stupid though because how can I get pregnant if I am not having a period, and probably not ovulating? Does anyone else have this pain with PCOS? I just want to figure out what is going on with me and my doctor does not seem to take my problems seriously. It is consuming my life. Help!

Default

sounds kind of like how i was. I went off birth control then i didn't have any periods. I had some pain on my first few "provera periods" but i think they were just major cramping. Nothing like you are describing....If you feel like your doctor isn't taking you seriously, find a different doctor. trust me, a doctor you feel comfortable with & trust makes a world of difference. did s/he test you for insulin resistance? that was a good test for me. my dr found that i was resistant adn he put me on metformin. after that i had periods on my own. but mind you i had found this doctor after others telling me "you're overweight, that's why you're not havign periods" or, my favorite "it's all in your head". if a doctor doesn't listen to you, it's not worth your pain, go find someone who is willing to help.
you shouldn't have to be trying for a year before you get help with PCOS. they should at least be sending you to a specialist to tell you what's wrong. i'm sorry that i'm probably not a lot of help, but i am goign to urge you to find a doctor who will listen and help you. And i wish you and your husband the best of luck on trying for a baby!
