Default Does anyone have a pressure cooker? Any good recipes?

I don't even know why I bought this thing... Oh, I know...it was the Today Special Value on QVC, it looked cool, and I have no willpower.

Anyway...I have it now. What do I do with it???

I'll be watching this thread. I'm thinking of getting one. I know that they are great for things like stew and other long simmering stuff. Pot roasts come to mind. They are the opposite of crockpots. I've heard that a 3 hour stew can be done in 20 minutes and taste every bit as good and be as tender. Friends of ours do potatoes in their pressure cooker when they're having company. They can do lots of potatoes in no time.

I found this site... Miss Vickie's Pressure Cooker Recipes. It's got a chart for cooking times, and lots of recipes. You need an up to date Acrobat reader, it seems.

Thanks for the link! I was looking at the 'veggie cooking time' list, and it's very helpful. You can cook sweet potato slices in 5 minutes! WOW!

http://missvickie.com/howto/times/howtovegtimes.html

Here's another link on PCooking: http://www.fabulousfoods.com/school/...urecooker.html

It says that PCooking cooks 70% faster than traditional methods and retains more nutrients since they aren't boiled away in water...

I bought some books on the subject, too.

What books did you buy? I'm a cookbook collector, it seems, and if I get a pressure cooker, I'd like a couple of good books.

My mom has always used a perssure cooker and so have I. I love pressure cooking and it is great for making the indian curries and rice that I make daily. My mom has sent me 2 stainless steel pots that fit onto each other and into the pressure cooker and I can make my curry and rice both at one time.

I find the pressure cooker most useful when I am cooking meat. The meat (beef, chicken or goat meat, lamb) gets cooked very fast !

LOL, you should see my collection. Lots of odds and ends. I don't have a Dummies cook book yet, and that one sounds like a good place to start. Oddly enough, I do own Fishing for Dummies. Don't ask.

I use mine to cook curry dishes, stews, greens anything I want cooked really quickly or want to get the meat done really quickly i.e. if I make lamb shanks I'll pressure cook them then finish them off in the oven.

I love my pressure cooker. I use it most with cooking artichokes and when I forget to take meat out of the freezer. I can cook a roast that is frozen in like 30 minutes. Everything gets so flavorful, it is amazing.

Have fun experimenting with your new Pressure Cooker.
