I haven't lost a whole lot of hair yet and I would like to try and avoid it if at all possible. I haven't been prescribed medicine yet and I'm actually hoping to go the natural route of medication instead of BCP or Spiro/Aldactone. Me and a friend of mine were conversing over wigs. She doesn't have hairloss nor does she have PCOS but she did say that she wears wigs. I'm thinking about purchasing a wig. Does anyone here wear wigs and what was your experience to wearing those wigs?
I don't wear wigs but I haven't experienced significant hair loss yet. I believe that you should do whatever makes you feel the most confident and comfortable. (I also wanted to bump your thread up so maybe someone with experience in this area might see it.)

I am interested in this, too. I have very little I can do with my fine limp and now lower amount of hair so I would like to hear about people's experiences with wigs and cost, etc.

I used to wear wigs for YEARS! In fact, I got addicted to them, since they were so much easier than having to do my hair. Interestingly enough, I found that the cheaper ones were better than the super expensive ones. Also, baking soda mixed with shampoo is the best way to clean them!
I don't know if you all saw me on CNN, but 2 years ago I showed up on air with VERY short hair, and told everyone I got it cut. Turns out it was a wig. I wore that sucker for almost a year until someone saw me out somewhere with hair almost to my shoulders. Two weeks later, I showed up on air with longer hair, and THEN...I discovered extensions. I'll never wear my hair out again. EVER (and it's actually very long and thick - 1/2 way down my back.)
But back to wigs...they can be a bit hot, and that can be a problem if you have hot flashes, but other than that I vote THUMBS UP!

i bought 2 wigs they just sit in my closet i don't like the way they feel on. i also feel like everyones looking at me.i have been using toppik but my hair loss is getting to bad to use it anymore.any suggestions?
What about extensions? They take a little getting used to, but I LOVE them. I have mine sewn in, but a friend of mine gets 'locks' (or locs?). Locks are great for 'filling out' thin hair, and no one will see them.

Extensions or locks wouldn't help with the receding hair and so little fullness and all on top, would it?

They look like they are somehow attached, like by rubberbands or the such, to your existing hair? Is this about right? I had never heard of locks before. They look interesting, but I can't afford them right now, so just asking for future reference.

My hairloss, which had been diffuse and slow through my late thirties, started to get faster in my early forties. And in the last two years, I have really started losing hair from my hairline and temples on back. So a little bit more than a year ago, I started wearing a hairpiece.
I would rather not have to deal with hair loss, but I'm incredibly happy there is a solution that works for me.
I also have some full wigs. I am anticipating that if my hairloss continues, in a couple of years, I will probably be wearing full wigs, full timem instead of the partial hairpiece I wear now. They aren't the most comfy things in the world, buy you adjust, and there are so many brands, styles, etc., there's something that works for everyone. And when I see myself in the mirror in pretty healthy hair, oh wow, I look ten or more years younger, and it does incredible things for my self esteem.
I discovered the Wig Support site and that's what educated me about "supplemental hair". I've gotten an incredible amount of help there. Lots of pics of incredibly pretty women looking great in wigs, too. http://groups.msn.com/WigSupport/general.msnw
So if you ever think that a wig or hairpiece might be a realistic option for you, don't sit there and think, "eeeeuuuuu, gross, a wig." Think, "this could be a smart thing to do." Wigs can be the easiest good hair day you ever had. It's the solution that's worked for a lot of us. There are a lot of women who go to the Wig Support site that have PCOS, in addition to women who have alopecia for other reasons. It's informative, friendly, a wonderful community, like this one.

I found a "wiglet": basically bangs on a headband. It was only $15 but DH won't let me buy it. *sigh* It might be the thing if you have male-pattern hairloss like me, or just want to "try out" bangs before cutting them and looking at them regrowing for 3 years LOL. Or want bangs to wear with a fancy updo. They have zillions of colors to choose from. It's called the 'Halo Frame' and can be found somewhere off the website hairuwear.com which has links to stores that sell it too. I can't speak for how it actually IS in real life, but it looks like a good idea!
If I ever do have to go to a full wig, I am going to change color--no more boring brown! I'll go "Titanic" red or blonde even! (I have very pale skin--wouldn't look as weird as it sounds)

Never wrestle with a pig. You both get dirty, and the pig likes it.
Finding this halo has solved a problem for me... Needed a bang to cover my front, after finding a headband piece to cover top and sides attractively. Going to see if this is the solution. I am a hairdresser, and trying to design my own style that works for women with PCOS and sensitive scalp, which is my personal situation...
Thanks again for the idea.
