Default Does anyone here have Graves' Disease?

Hello. I found out today that I have Graves' disease. I don't know too much about it but this is a link I found http://www.4woman.gov/faq/graves.htm#1

I was wondering if anyone else has this. I feel so alone!

Amanda

i would go to www.thyroid.about.com so many people there have graves.

i know two people close to me with graves..one had the radioactive stuff and the other had it removed.

what happens is once they stop the over activity...alot of times you go hypo thyroid and then take thryoid meds.

it does seem scary, but its more common than people think. i have hashimoto's hypothryoid. which is like yours in the sense that we have antibodies but it works in the opposite way kinda.

good luck and you arent alone...

btw both people i know are totally fine now!!! xo jenn

I hope you don't mind me asking but are your 2 friends w/graves overweight? I'm scared that if they kill my thyroid or remove it that I will gain a bunch of weight and not be able to shed the pounds. See, I used to be anorexic and I'm afraid I'll slip back into it.

my one friend who is male..right before he got dxd with graves.lost tons of weight and it was actually scary..once he had treatment he gained a bit of weight back and has now stabilized.

my female friend who had graves was very average weight before and after.

are you afraid that if they treat it and you go hypo that you will gain tons of weight and then the anorexic tendencies will come back bc you gained weight?? if so i would adress tht with the doc for sure.

i am sorry you are going through this , but its something that realllllly must be treated... xoxoxo jenn
