Question Does anyone know????????????

Do any of you ladies know how long you have to wait after you adopt a baby before you can adopt again? Is there even a waiting period? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I think it depends on the program, agency, etc. Our agency that we used for our international adoptions requires 6 months before you submit paperwork again, 1 year between adoptions. So you can get on the waiting list after 6 months, since all of the countries they work with take over a year for a referral.

I think if differs from place to place and state to state.

Are you ready to adopt again already?

It depends on the agency/country -- some will allow you to pursue two adoptions at once, some don't have any waiting period, only requiring that one adoption be finalized before beginning another, some require the child to be a certain age before adopting again. There are as many different requirements as there are agencies and countries. Just check with the agency and see what they say.

Miss-Meme I'm not sure just yet but one of my cousins friends are pregnant and she says she cannot afford to take care of this child. she already has 2 othr kids she gave up to custody of to her mother. My cousin explained to her how I got Matthew and why I chose to adopt and the girl asked her to ask me if I would take her baby. So whether she's serious or not I'm not sure the only thing I know is her mother does not want the baby and she has already told her parents that she is giving it up for adoption. Her family is in complete agreement to this plan. The only thing they are asking is for pictures of the baby. She is having a little girl SO..................... If this all works out We will Definately be done with adoption. OUR FAMILY WILL BE COMPLETE!!!!!!!!!!!! I told DH wouldn't it be nice both of our angels starting Kindergarten together He just smiled I think he's thinking GOOD THE END OF DIAPERS LOL!!!!

I would look into it and see if you can adopt. I do know you will need to have your homestudy updated.

Good luck with it!

In that case, I think you need to see if your state (or the state where the BM is) has any laws about that. I'm betting the laws don't get that specific though. I would then contact an adoption attorney (since it would be a private adoption) to find out all you can about adopting so close.

Good Luck to you & to the Birth Family!

Hey ladies Just an update...........

I talked to my social worker today and explained to her the situation AND she said there really are no restrictions as to how soon between adoptions you can adopt she just said alot of agencies won't be willing to help you find a placement so close but since I found my own it will cost alot less to have the home study updated and everything else taken care of. So the plan now is for me and the birthmother to meet maybe this Saturday in a neutral place (Noone's house) and discuss what her plans really are. Hopefully everything goes well but we will see what happens.

my cousin said she's due sometime in September she thinks around the 17th. I still have all of the girl stuff that I bought when I first started this adoption process and my best friend just had a little girl on the 14th of this month so she says if the adoption goes through then she will give me all of her daughters clothes that she cannot fit anymore. BUT like I said before I'm not going to get excited about it until everything happens because she told my cousinshe wants to hold her before she gives her up and I'm thinking she may change her mind once she holds this baby after all she did carry her for 9 months.

That doesn't mean anything! Lots of birth mothers hold their babies after they are born. Our birthmother had Jace in the room with her most of the night. She had no problem at all. She had made up her mind a long time ago that this baby was not going to stay with her. In her mind it wasn't hers. She made no attachments during the 9 months.

Does anyone know would this be considered a private or independent adoption? What is the difference and what do you think the cost would be? I asked my social worker and she said to go through the agency it would cost me about $5,000.00-$6,000.00. Also do you ladies know what an updated home study consists of?

Private and independent adoption are the same thing. Independent is more of the new term to use.

We used a local attorney to keep our cost down. Our adoption was very low cost.

I asked what an updated home study would consists of and was told that things like the finger prints, doctor stuff and that type of stuff would need to be done again. Then they need to re-write the study itself. I'm sure that are meetings with the caseworker. If your child would be old enough they would talk to him. But they will redo the study to include your ds.

Thanks Miss-Meme I was going to try and use a local lawyer but the ones I have talked to said it will cost between $5,000.00-$8,000.00. I thought that would be a little less since the agency said it will be at least 5,000.00. I was expecting the local attorney to say maybe $1500 but it seems their just out to get money because one of the attorneys kept telling me well you should not really worry all you have to do is come up with the money and you will get it all back when you file your taxes!!!!

Which is true, but its wrong for him to want to take money just because of that!

Maybe check attorneys in other nearby towns. I live in a small town, so that might be why the cost are so low.

But if it's going to cost you the same to use the agency and you liked the agency, I would just go with them again.
